I have taken my overlocker out of the box, plugged it in...erm, now what?!

Any links to good basic tutorials would be great, I've had a look in youtube and couldn't find anything.

I know how to use normal sewing machine, but I literally haven't got a clue where to start with this! And I can't make sense of the diagrams in the booklet that came with it

Is it already threaded? My 2 overlockers have both come ready-threaded with different shades so that you can play with the separate tensions and see the effect. If so - don't un-thread it at this stage. Get some scraps of mid-weight woven fabric (i.e. unstretchy) and have a shot. What make is it?

Gulp this is me too. My overlocker arrived this week, its currently still sat in its box taunting me, daring me too plug it in.

I've ordered this book, Sewing with Sergers: The Complete Handbook for Overlock Sewing. also been lurking on the sewing forum.

It was threaded, it has unthreaded itself now though I think.

Planning a second attempt with it later this evening, will let you know if I discover how to use it!

What model have you got? This is a toyota SL3304

aren't overlockers wildly expensive?

Mine was about £150 from argos.

I have a Janome 9200D.A large glass of wine helped me to find the courage to play with it a little at the weekend. It didn't bite and I came away with all fingers intact which I felt was an achievement. The Sewing with Sergers book arrived this morning so I've been having a browse through that whilst counting the hours until DC go to bed so I can go and play again.
