I'm really pleased. It is only 9ft x 7ft and has a huge spare bed in there taking up space. The only person ever to use it is MIL and she visits every couple of years,so it seems pointless to keep it as a bedroom. So the bed is going and I am going to keep my jewellery making and sewing stuff up there.

Now I can buy a sewing machine as it will have somewhere to live. Can anyone reccomend a cheap basic one?Secondhand is fine.

Envy at craft room

I have a Toyota - bought on special offer from a magazine a few years ago. Does a few basic stitches and not very expensive (£120). It is absolutely fine for most ordinary sewing.

Something a bit like this.

The teacher of the patchwork and quilting class I did a couple of years ago used to swear by her Brother. A lot more expensive though but you might be able to pick up a second hand one.

Thanks Niecie, that machine is exactly the sort of thing that I'm after,I don't want an all singing and dancing one,I'd get confused.

I wouldn't get too Envy of my craft room yet-it needs decorating, has tatty carpet and a leaking radiator at present, but the plumber is coming on Monday to quote for replacing it and I'm sure we can find a carpet remnant for such a small room.

Ah but that is the challenge - to use your crafting skills to make it lovely. Smile

Nice curtains - hand made of course, storage/shelving down one side of the room (hides walls), worktop/desk down the other....

Have fun. Smile

Congratulations Grin I have, well had, a craft room, half of it is not taken up with various crap that I WILL be sorting out next week. You will have to be absolutely strict about other peopls crap creeping in there. Locks etc Wink

Aldi are doing an offer on a sewing machine at the moment I think

You could look out for a sewing machine on Freecycle. I saw one on our recently, and it's free!!

Or our local sewing machine shop has some 2nd hand ones for about £50- £100.

Thank you for the kind comments and advice.I told my mum about my plans and she is going to lend me a machine to see if I like it.She has quite a few,a lot of them very technical, plus knitting machines and an overlocker too.She also has a craft room and a shed!

I plan on banning eveyone.Dh's gun cabinets are in there, but he only needs to go in there to get them out, nothing else. The dds share a room at the minute,so I'm hoping that they don't change their minds if they see the room looking nice.

I'm thinking of having a worktable attached to the wall with hinges,so it can be folded down if the room is needed for visitors. The plumber came today about changing the radiator and the walls need skimming as the plaster is cracked and the previous owner painted them with gloss.
