Could some crafty people come & talk to me about an idea.....with magnets

I need a self registration systems for children

I have the end of a kitchen cupboard (base unit) which I don't want to permanently damage

I have seen this & this

I am thinking about printing the children's names & photos and sticking on a background with my logo on

So far so good - but how do I stick the logo on to the cupboard?

Do I do it straight on the cupboard or onto a board

How do I get the pictures on to the magnets

Is there an easier was to do this (That doesn't involve blutac or velcro as they get eaten)?

If you got this far thanks Wink

I like the magentic photo idea, but I think you're making life more complicated than it needs to be. Have you looked at something like this?

KatyMac · 10/01/2011 09:54

They would just take them off & chew them; the ones my DD has done of those shatter when they hit the floor

I think the magnetic sheets are less risky in that sense

You could make a fabric wall hanging with little pockets with their names/photo on and they just have to put something in the pocket when they arrive each day (perhaps laminated name tags)

they eat velcro?? lol

Or just use double sided tape

best of luck!

bumpybecky · 10/01/2011 10:16

do they really eat the velcro?!

I'm not sure how to get the photos onto the magnetic sheet you posted while making it dribble proof (am assuming if they eat velcro they're also going to give the magnets a good suck!)

might be possible to laminate the photo and magnet sheet, nit sure if it'll still be magnetic enough though

ds's preschool they have laminated pictures with sticky velcro on the back and a board with velcro dots. That seems to work well, but as they're not babies, less likely to eat the pictures

KatyMac · 10/01/2011 10:21

I will try & laminate the magnet & some paper to see if it will go through the laminator (don't worry I know how to take it apart if it gets stuck - not that I've stuck something too thick through before or anything Blush)

Yes they sit & try & pick the velcro off too either eat or see if it comes off - not sure which

Can you print the photos onto iron-on transfer paper, sew the magnet into a little bag and iron the photos onto the bags?

KatyMac · 10/01/2011 11:59

I like that idea but I'm not sure the flexible magnets will support the weight of the material - I'll hve a play

How about another idea all together??,

as my friends Nursery, they have made colourful tiered mobiles made from those 2ft long (aprox) green gardening canes, crossed at right angles in the center, the logo is attached at the center string above the top tier, & the kids photo & name is laminated & clipped with paper clips on lengths of string hanging from the ends of the canes......they look very impressive when you walk in

She's also had the kids make & decorate salt dough picture frames, & make there names in dough & add at the bottom, & put a photo behind, these have a bit of the sticking back magnetic roll you can buy,..... I bought a roll quite cheaply on e-bay......she also made the logo with salt dough & painted it

We are in a conservatory with a low ceiling so I don't think that would work

But I love the idea Smile

Might be compleatly missing the point but i work with children and we use a tonne of this.

Pictures/names/logo's are printed as wipe clean magnets.

bumpybecky · 10/01/2011 13:28

oooh that's clever! didn't know you could get that

KatyMac · 10/01/2011 13:44

See - I didn't know that existed

So that can do the names/photos, so I just need to decided between

  • a white board with a drawn picture using permanent markers
  • Print out various bits of the logo & stick them together on a board
  • something else very clever (that I can't think of now)

I'd go for the something else very clever option Wink

KatyMac · 10/01/2011 13:56

Is the printable magnetic sheet drawable on? (with felts/paints etc?)

OP posts:
DevonDumplin · 10/01/2011 15:35

Yep, Sharpie Permanent Markers work a treat. Never tried paints or felts as we only use the gloss coated sheets but there are also matt versions you could try, can't help with these though.

DevonDumplin · 10/01/2011 15:38

Ooh and we use a massive magnetic white board with a logo made of craft foam (from hobbycraft) superglued on. Hope this has been helpful.

KatyMac · 10/01/2011 17:49

Oh - that's an idea

I'll buy some & have a play

I'm looking at these
