dog coats from an old fleece has anybody done this

ive been looking for a dog coat for my bijon i remembered a old spotty fleece of my dd plenty of fabric ive taken it apart but a bit puzzled now

i havent got a coat already this will be her first i get the mental picture in my head but once i start handling the fabric i go all fingers and thumbs and i loose my direction

can you drape a piece of newspaper and draw on this, then cut and see if it sits and draw and cut some more. this is what i did for MIL poodle and she now has a few lovely coats. the best is a nice floral raincoat. she looks very sweet in it!.
