Sewing Pattern for sling

MrsSnaplegs · 26/11/2010 07:41

I would like to try and make a sling to use with my soon to be new arrival. I think I would like to use fleece as it will be warmer for winter and although I have a fantastic sewing machine I am not great at using it (not enough practice!) so will probably hand sew it. Does anyone know where I can get a pattern or is it so simple I don't need one Grin

There are lots of patterns on this site big mama

This one looks very easy and you can use your machine. pattern for sling

Can I add a word of caution to using fleece. You need to be sure it doesn't stretch!

Thank you both - will try and find some suitable material. Which slings were banned and why?

The bag slings which are padded and their design with a deep pocket structure means that unless you are carefully watching your baby they might end up in a position that causes asphyxiation.

I do use slings and have with DS they are very calming and quite convenient negotiating town, but they are not all the same-so it is worth reading up before you embark on your project.

I would say to make a mei-tai or "asian style" carrier. I bought one for DS2 and it was so comfy to carry him around in. He was 10pound at birth and the Baby Bjorn knackerd my shoulders before I had even stepped out of the house!

I did a quick google Under "images-mei-tai-tutorial" and came up with all these

If you can find a local sling meet, you will be able to try a selection of slings out. It would be terrible to go to all the trouble of making one & then you don't like using it.

The wrap slings are meant to be most comfortable.

I also had a ring sling but didn't like using it, other than for hanging out the washing or running from the car to the shop, as you could just throw it on.
