hello
it's my turn to do craft at playgroup this week and in the store cupboard an excess of the aforementioned items.

There are about 15 kids, mainy boys from 2-5. What would you get them to make under supervision?

TIA

Egg cartons as in flat open ones, or egg boxes?

marthamoo · 29/08/2005 08:03

Because if it's opening and shutting ones they do lend themselves to snippy snappy crocodiles. On leads (plastic flex)? Crepe paper? Er...dunno. Maybe someone who is is arty and crafty and knows what they're talking about will come along...

open and shutting ones

its' awfully sweet of you to try and help MM x

You can use the crepe paper to glue on the egg boxes to give the colour.

Snapping Monster boxes - egg box, covered with bits of crepe paper, plastic flex legs/antenna?

SoupDragon · 29/08/2005 09:32

Did caterpillars once - cut egg box into 2 x 3 strips of the egg holder bits, 1 piece oer caterpillar. Cover with crepe paper pieces, plastic flex antenna (we used pipe cleaners) add some eyes at the front.

Oooh - and monsters - cut lid from egg box - this it the head/body. Cut each egg holder out separately - these are the feet. Cover box bits with cut up crepe paper, add eyes and a mouth, attach feet to the box by plastic flex legs so they dangle when held up, bit of plastic flex/string to hang the monster up.

loads of egg carton things here. you can search by equipment/materials too.

We used cut up coloured paper for everything at our toddler group because we weren't allowed to do painting. Great for using up scraps.

thanks for that link Wholesaler, I made the bats into "Monsters" with one googly eye and feathers and crepe paper tails and the kids loved them. I had to rein my self in when I was telling another mum that she should be cutting the egg cartons like me, so that they actually looked like bat's wings - and then I realised I was too far in the zone.

Anyway it's a great idea thanks

Dont know if this is relevant but I dont think you are allowed to use egg cartons in playgroups etc!! Never used to be able to might have changed or loo rolls!

suzywong · 31/08/2005 08:29

Ah but this is Australia, we can use asbestos egg cartons if we like

Why on earth can't you use egg cartons at playgroup? Have never heard that - very intrigued!

MrsEffervescent · 01/09/2005 00:13

i know they stopped using loo rolls for craft in our schools....

suzywong · 01/09/2005 00:14

buy WHY????

and if you have to stop using them to enterian little kids hsould you stop using them to hold your loo paper quite so close to your naked botty? Or is the danger only activated when in proximity to Copydex and glitter???

In my house at the moment my son has a fascination with flushing huge ammounts of loo paper down the loo...meaning that the bldy loo roll doesn't have chance to harbour germs etc....!!!! (assuming that's why schhols etc don't want them!!!) (last week he managed to dispose of a whole roll withing 2 hours....needless to say have had words with him since!!!)

egg cartons : salmoella
Loo rolls : nasty toilet germs

Sad but true! Load of b*llox in my opinion. Always used egg cartons at my playgroup.
