Screening Results

Hello, first time posting but no stranger to reading mumsnet antenatal threads!

I am 14 weeks pregnant and at my 12 week scan opted for screening for Down’s, Edward’s and Patau. The results came back as 1 in 9 for E/P and 1 in 74 for Down’s. My pap-a was very low (0.13). The NT was 1.8 so in the normal range I think. We’ve opted for the NIPT and waiting for the results next week. I am 36.

I don’t really know what I’m posting for, other than reassuring stories… it’s a very miserable wait. I just wondered if anyone has had screening tests show up higher chance results more than once? With my DD (now almost 20 months) we were recalled for screening for higher chance of DS (1 in 86) and the NIPT came back low chance and she doesn’t have DS. I had normal pap-a levels with her (although they were on the lower side) and with my first DD (now 4) I had low pap-a of .36 but no recall on the screening tests.

I should get the results later in the week and was hoping for some positive stories about repeat screening recalls as I am struggling with the wait.

Hello! I just wanted to comment in hope it may add some reassurance. I am also worried about my results for downs though I was classed as low risk. However many people on here have shared reassuring stories of them having very high risk results and their babies being perfectly fine. Many have said their NIPT came back low risk after high risk screening tests. It is also a lot more accurate! The combined test is a calculator that takes age, weight, NT, HCG and PAPPA -A to produce a risk level, with ages between 30-40 automatically put in a higher risk cat. Easier said than done but try not to worry, I hope your NIPT results come back soon!

Thanks @AnonymousB95 , I appreciate your reply. The wait feels endless! I hope your pregnancy goes smoothly and you don’t worry too much.

@Lemondolphin did everything turn out ok? I am going through the wait for nipt results now. X

Hi @May9851 - sorry to hear you’re going through the awful waiting time! It’s really hard. Yes my NIPT came back low chance but my health board do follow up scans until they’re satisfied if the initial chance for T13 and T18 was below 1 in 10, which mine was. It’s basically to double check the NIPT result I think. Had the first scan and it all looked ok for this stage so massively reassured by that!

I hope your results come back soon and you’re reassured by them. It really is an awful
wait and I just tried to distract myself as much as possible x x
