Quad test came back 1 in 20 chance of Down’s Syndrome

Hello - first time mum and first time poster.

As the title says my quad screen came back last week with a 1 in 20 chance of our baby having Down’s Syndrome. I’ve since had the NIPT, but am waiting for the results which might take up to 2 weeks. I couldn’t have the 12 week scan due to baby laying on it’s tummy and not being able to get the NT measurement.

Myself and my husband are beside ourselves with worry, I’ve barely slept and I’ve had to take time off work to try and cope with how overwhelmed I feel.

For context I’ll be 34 when baby is born, BMI is around 30.

I’m not really sure what I’m after by posting this, I guess positive stories and to feel less alone. My screening midwife told me out of the approx 5000 test done each year at my hospital that only around 200 come back as increased risk, so I really feel like the numbers are already against us and I’m struggling to stay positive 😥

TIA x

Didn’t want to read and run.

I can imagine the worry you’re going through. A lot of mums will tell you they had a high score and everything was fine.

The reality is, at this point no one knows.

I can tell you I’ve known quite a few children, now adults, with DS but I don’t think that’s what you’re looking for either.

The only thing you really can do is remain positive and talk. To your husband, your midwife, your friends/family, until you have the results back from your next test.

I genuinely wish you good luck.

1 in 20 is still pretty low. Would you put a lot of money on a bet with those odds? Don't think I would!

I completely understand your fears though, and really hope you get a good outcome.

Sending positive thoughts OP, we’ve been there and I remember the stress and anguish we felt at the time.

Our result was also 1 in 20 and DS didn’t have Down syndrome. As the pp says, no one can predict what your outcome will be, but just remember that 1 in 20 is only 5% chance of your baby having DS. I always felt better looking at it that way..

Good luck x

Very very worrying I know. I can understand your concern. But you can also see it that there is a 19/20 chance that your baby doesn't have Down's.

Thank you for the replies, we got the call this morning to say that the NIPT has come back low risk 🥹♥️
