Nearly 12 weeks and still no contact from the Midwife

Im a first time mom and I’m 11 weeks and 3 days pregnant today.
I found out I was pregnant on the 03/03/2025 and filled out a form with my GP to be referred to the midwife. I didn’t hear nothing so on 20/03/2025 I completed a self referral online and then shortly after I received my 12 week scan letter. I have since been to the doctors and was reassured I will be contacted around 10 weeks but still didn’t hear nothing. I keep checking the NHS app and there are no referrals showing which had me worried so last Friday 11/04/2025 I called the nearest maternity unit and gave them my details. They advised there are no appointments showing on the system and said I wasn’t with them anyway and gave me the number for the hospital I’m allocated to. I then call them and they advised they only had the scan showing and that the midwife appointment is arranged by my GP. I call my GP who tell me it’s usually two weeks after referral I’ll get a call with an appointment, I said I was referred on the 04/03/2025 according to my notes on the NHS app, they then said oh yes I can see that we will need to chase up the medical secretary but they’re not in today. I’ve been ill since Friday and was able to get an emergency doctors appointment for today whilst on the phone I mention the midwife again and they said they or the medical secretary will call me back themselves once they chase it for me. I go to the doctors and get checked and they tell me it’s a viral infection that should clear on its own. I tell the doctor about that the midwife hasn’t contacted me and I have my first scan next week so I’m a bit worried but the receptionist said she will call back once they chase it up, she says if you don’t hear nothing call us back to chase. I hear nothing and then call back today just before they close and get the same nonsense and get told the medical secretary is off sick call back tomorrow. I’m so fed up, I should have had my bloods and everything taken by now and I had an abnormal smear last year so I think I might be high risk. I just don’t know what to do. any advice, please?

The only thing that actually needs to happen in a specific time frame is your scan. That needs to happen by 13w6d for dating accuracy to be optimal. But that's already booked in, and people find out they're pregnant after that gestation all the time and cope fine. The midwife appointment is literally just a history-taking - it really doesn't matter when it happens. Keep chasing it up obviously, but don't worry.

You should have had a MW appointment before 10 weeks to have some bloods taken and to be referred to your 12 week scan. At least you do have scan booked in. I don’t think it’s fair you haven’t had first MW appointment, i’d continue to chase and make sure you get booked in with MW for around 16 week mark.

You don’t need bloods taken until your 12 week scan as they are used for the combined screening (assuming you want this) and to check things like your iron level. It’ll probably be a pain for the hospital if your maternity notes haven’t been prepared but let them work that out. I wouldn’t worry too much about the midwife element and you’ll likely see a midwife in some capacity at your scan.
