Help with scans….

Hi - my daughter is pregnant and, from the date of her last period, they are saying she’s 15 and a half weeks pregnant. However her periods were very irregular so she’s not entirely sure she is actually that far gone (she’s thinking she’s probably about 9 and a half weeks.) Had her first midwife appointment today and the midwife didn’t mention a scan. Surely they aren’t just going to leave her without a scan until her 20 weeks scan? What if there is something wrong with the baby that could have been picked up if she’d had a scan now/at 12 weeks? Also, she hasn’t told the rest of her family and wanted the scan pic to show them….she doesn’t want to just tell them without showing them the pic because, at the moment, all she has done is a home pregnancy test. The midwife didn’t even do a test (they did take a urine sample but didn’t do anything with it at the appointment.). Can we insist on a scan if they think she is 15 weeks? Help!!!

The midwife should have mentioned it so maybe give them a call but where I live you get a scan appointment in the post after your midwife booking appointment.

Go for a private scan if you really want one soon. You should be getting a scan through though.

First scan should be at 12 weeks. Did she book the midwife appointment later or did she not find out she was pregnant until later.

Its normal that no one confirms pregnancy these days, it's just an at home test until your first scan.

Did your daughter tell the midwife she thought she was 9 weeks or did she just give her LMP date so it's documented as 15 weeks?
