MAT B1 form

Hey! Can I get your thoughts please?

I joined a new company this year. My EDD is a day later, than my companies advanced maternity pay eligibility date.

I have been told by my midwife they absolutely have to put the EDD that was on my 12 week scan, on my MAT B1 form. They can’t go off period date, although I have heard other surgeries may do this.

have tou come across this? Do you think a company might offer leeway, or could I ask for a rescan for instance? My private scan said my due date was different to my NHS, so wondering if this is worth a try?

Thanks!

Have you read your company's policy in full?

The EWC (expected week of childbirth) is usually used to determine qualifying weeks and entitlement to standard maternity pay. This date is usually the Sunday after your EDD. Unless your EDD is on a Sunday.

Id also ask about leeway with your company, what if your due date was on the correct day, but baby arrived early?

Doesn’t matter. It’s the due date that matters for eligibility.

Every midwife I know would change the date provided it were within a week of reality.

Hi, you’ve given me food for thought. It does discuss week of EDD, but I think this still means I fall a week out unfortunately.

If only mine was willing!

Given something like 5% of babies arrive on their due date (it’s a very inexact science) I wonder why she would insist on using a date that makes you worse off once baby arrives.

GentleBee · 10/12/2024 09:21

I would have to agree. I was told that I should go to citizens advice/ pregnant then screwed if I come across any difficulty. I have wondered if I should just speak with the GP directly or even change midwives…

I changed midwife. The one I had insisted on using the Doppler first at check ups. My baby hated the Doppler and would stick her bum out to get away from it (literally saw her do it) which made my bump a funny shape. When she would then measure my bump it would measure bigger than my dates so she would send me to the hospital where I would wait 3-4 hours to be seen by a consultant, by which point DD was back curled up as she should be and the measurement would be perfect.

After the 4th or 5th time of angry consultants asking me why I was there (wasting their time) I asked the midwife to measure first and then Doppler. She refused, said I wasn’t in a position to question her, so I refused to see her and was allocated a different midwife.

It’s honestly surprising to me how rigid some of them can be when a little bit of understanding would go such a long way.

Glad you spoke up, it seems that there are midwives (like anywhere I guess), that are rigid. I haven’t seen my midwife yet and I’m 20 weeks soon! I am tempted to change…

Defo agree to change your midwife! Jobsworth

JinglingBells0 · 24/12/2024 00:04

The midwife wrote the wrong date on my form; when I messaged her she just told me to change it. I’d be tempted to do the same in your position. How would work know it’s not the same as scan?

Hi OP - could you let me know how this played out?
