Hi All,
Thoughts welcome on this please.
My wife had an NHS scan and blood test this week (12.5 weeks). Sonographer said that the thickness of the fluid at the back of the baby's neck is 1.5mm and so seems fine as we were told that anything over 3.5mm may require fuerther investigation. We were told that if there were a high chance of any issue then we would receive a response within two days. Two days has now passed and we haven't heard anything and so our assumption is that there are no issues and the NHS don't require any further testing.
For peace of mind we are also considering having an NIPT privately and wanted to go for the Panorama test, rather than the Harmony test, as my understanding is that the Panorama test also tests for chromosome abnormalities such as Turners and Klinefelters.
This lead me to question why the NHS doesn't test for these specifically? From what I can read they can test for these but not as standard and would test as a follow up if considered necessary? Klinefelters has a high false positive rate and a low detection rate. Also once the child is born it may not necessarily be detected with a high percentage not being detected to adulthood? If it is difficult to detect on the NHS then could private clinics have the same issue?
Turners syndrome isn't specifically tested for but the ultrasound that we had could have detected problems which may indicate Turners but we haven't heard anything further from the NHS Sonographer
We'd like to have the NIPT completed fairly quickly but even in London there are limited places that offer the Panorama with these additonal tests included. There are lots that offer the Harmony test though. Another issue is that for the Panorama test we would need to allow longer to get the tests back. We idealy don't want to wait too much longer we need to tell our employers and want to begin telling family and friends.
Does anyone have any experience of the Panorama test? Would you recommend it in our circumstances? It doesn't seem like we are high risk. The higher cost of the test is fine but we want to be sure that it is worth delaying further to have it done.
We are also very interested to hear of anyone's experiecne of the Harmony/Panorama tests.
My wife is 37 and we have an 18 month old boy but only had the standard NHS tests when my wife was pregnant with him. He doesn't have any of the conditions mentioned above.
Thanks in advance. Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on anything.
