Short left fibula

I had my 20 week scan last week which identified a short tibia and fibula in baby’s left leg. I had a follow up appointment with fetal medicine today which found that both the right and left tibia were around the same length (albeit a little bit smaller than usual) but the left fibula was measuring 10mm shorter than the right. I have been referred to orthopaedics but the consultant could not give too much of a prediction until we know what is causing this (i.e. genetic abnormality etc.)

I am wondering if anyone else has been in the situation where one bone on one leg measures shorter than the other? I can only find posts where both legs will measure short (but the same length).

Hello. Contact stepsworldwide.org. they are a charity specialising in supporting parents of children with lower limb conditions. I just want to reassure you everything will be OK. Lower limb abnormalities can be hard at times but on the whole life is normal. I had my leg amputated as a baby due to fibular hemimelia so speak from lived experience.

hello I’m going through a similar situation right now. I suspect my baby has the same condition that you have , they haven’t said anything yet, I’m going to have an appointment with a geneticist ultrasound early December, so far they are telling me baby has short femur and one missing fibula, do you have any advice on what I should expect. Thank you
