Post Amniocentesis cramping

Hi everyone,
I had an amniocentesis on Monday as an anomaly was flagged at the 20 week scan that is affecting my baby’s brain and they wanted to rule out a genetic defect.
I already had an NIPT at 12 weeks so they know it’s low risk for Downs etc but they’re testing for other rare disorders.
Just wondered what other people’s experiences post amniocentesis have been? I felt fine 1-2days after but today (day 3) I’ve been getting cramps and feeling exhausted. I thought cramps were only meant to happen up to 48hrs after and it’s starting to make me feel nervous. Has anyone had this and had a good outcome?

Hi there

I didn't end up having an amnio but I suggest you give your hospital a call. They might invite you in for a scan for peace of mind x

Thanks for your help, the cramps died out and everything was okay after the amino. I just have the bigger issue that our baby has Dandy Walker sadly.

Oh I’m so sorry. I don’t know what that entails but I have been in a similar position. Our baby had T18, we were going to have a CVS but didn’t end up having a diagnostic test before tfmr as baby was clearly too ill to survive. It was an awful period, particularly in the two week limbo. But we made it through.

I can really recommend the ARC charity for support, I had a call with them recently x

That must be hard for both of you. Have you decided what you're going to do?
