Awaiting NIPT results

Cmac334 · 22/05/2024 04:54

I am currently awaiting results from my NIPT test, which I agreed to have after showing a higher risk for Down Syndrome (1/51).

At my scan I was unable to get a measurement for the nuchal translucency, and couldn’t get measurements done so was unable to get a test for Edwards or Pataus.

Im very anxious as I have about a weeks wait to get the NIPT which will confirm if the baby has any of the syndromes.

I wonder if any of you have had similar experiences. Just looking for some advice and support. Thanks.

Hey. You’ll probably see from loads of posts on here I had this unbearable wait too. I must have posted hourly on here when I was waiting for my results. My risk was 1 in 137 due to age; my previous bloods and they couldn’t measure NT. All come back low risk after nearly a full week of waiting but the wait is dreadful.
I made myself ill that week of waiting. Try to keep yourself busy. I just sobbed and sobbed on the sofa for a week and it didn’t help my mental health or anxiety. Keep positive and read all the positive stories on here. Your positive thing is that they couldn’t get measures which would be due to babies position, not because of your bloods etc.
If you wanted to chat or ask questions for the next week I’m happy to speak to you or answer any questions. Good luck and stay positive x

@AimeeLou84 thank you much for responding. I have struggled with anxiety pre pregnancy and this has just thrown me.

I’m not as anxious about Down syndrome but the way my brain works is making me think that that will coke back low but it will come back positive for either of the other syndromes.

I’m trying to stay really positive and have come back into work today to take my mind off things. I had just recently become attached to the baby and properly was getting prepared and just feel like this is such a blow. But the odds are on my side and as you say there any so many positive stories.

I just wish the NHS was better resourced to allow for a quicker return of these kind of results. The stress felt by myself and my husband is off the charts and so many other couples have to go through the same. I feel for the staff as well as they really wish that these results could be returned quicker. There is only one lab in Scotland so they are very busy. I just wish they had done the NIPT instead of having the initial bloods first.

here’s hoping all goes well, I may take you up on the offer of messaging, thank you.

I had my NIPT on a Tuesday morning and got results on the Monday. Mine went to one lab in London. Apparently they work ok the bloods for 2-3 days as it’s a long process so if you had the test Monday you may have back for Friday. Did they only give you NIPT based on not being able to measure baby? X

Cmac334 · 22/05/2024 07:47

@AimeeLou84 it seems the services are similar in terms of the number of labs available.
They have said I could get the results by Monday - so I’m keeping an eye out for them.

I had to go back for a second dating scan and I was about 16 weeks, when I went at 13 weeks they couldn’t get the measurements. As I was further along, they couldn’t take the measurement for the nuchal translucency and they did a blood test then but that was just for Down syndrome and they told me at the time that they would check features at 20 weeks for Edwards and Pataus.

the blood test came back for 1/51 for Down Syndrome but that was just based on bloods and not the normal combined test with the nuchal translucency. So they then offered the NIPT to confirm outcome for Down Syndrome but that obviously includes Edwards and Pataus as well.

it’s such an anxious time.

I can’t offer much advice as I’m going through the same things right now, I got the call Monday to say my chances for Downs Syndrome were 1:66, I felt like my whole world had come crashing down. I went in straight away to have my bloods taken for the NIPT and like you I’m waiting for my results. I’ve taken a few days off work but I’m hoping to go back tomorrow. I have been through so many emotions these last few days, searching every post, staring at the 12 week scan picture of my perfect little baby, but yesterday I feel like I found some calm and I’m feeling okay today. I hope everything works out well for you 💕

Cmac334 · 22/05/2024 10:40

@Babyy1 I know exactly how you are feeling. It’s such a scary and uncertain time. I got my blood tests yesterday. I have been told that I could hear by Monday but most definitely Tuesday. I feel like time is going so slowly.

please let me know when you hear, I will be thinking of you for sure.

good to hear you are feeling better, I’m just trying to focus on my work and hope time flies in.

Just try to stay positive and busy that’s all I can suggest. I hid away all week waiting and crying and it made me 10000 times worse as my anxiety this pregnancy has been horrific and it all started at the NIPT.
Thinking of you both x

Babyy1 · 24/05/2024 09:40

@Cmac334 I called the screening team yesterday and they said the lab had received my bloods and the ETA was Tuesday but there’s a chance they could come in before then. I really hope it’s before then. I’ve come back to work today to face some sort of normality but I can’t really concentrate on anything but the potential outcome of these results.

Hi there

just wanted to say I’m thinking of you and hope you get the answers back quickly. I have had two NIPT test done in scotland, both times on a Tuesday and the results came back the following Monday. Appreciate it’s a bank holiday tomorrow though. Let us know how you get on

Cmac334 · 27/05/2024 07:01

@Babyy1 I hope you got on ok being back at work. It made a difference for me getting back into a routine for sure. The weekend has felt very long. I’m just hoping that we get our results today, but with it being a bank holiday I’m not holding out any hope. Been thinking of you. Hope you’re ok.

@MrsScotland thank you so much for your message. As I said above, the weekend has felt very long, I’m working today though which is good so I can distract myself. Just hoping so much that the bank holiday doesn’t affect things.

I went for a private scan last week as I was just so anxious about everything, that eased my mind a bit as the sonographer said that they couldn’t see anything of concern, but obviously at 17 weeks it might be as obvious as it would be for my 20 week scan. I’ve decided that being positive is better than being negative, mental health wise. I’m just hoping that everything comes back ok,

I’ll be sure to put a post up as soon as I hear and @Babyy1 please let us know when you hear too.

@Cmac334 Getting back to work has definitely helped but I feel a nervous wreck today knowing I could get the call any minute. They did say Tuesday but said it could be earlier. I’ve tried calling the screening team 3 times already this morning but no answer, they must be off for the bank holiday. It’s awful knowing the results could be just sat there on a screen! I’ll let you know when I get the call. Thinking of you too, hoping everything works out well for both of us 🤍

@Babyy1 @MrsScotland @AimeeLou84 hey guys just wanted to message with an update, we luckily got a call today after 2. All three came back as low risk, honestly the relief I feel is something else, but I’m shattered now!

Hoping you get a call tomorrow @Babyy1 thinking of you! X

Hi, hope you are ok…

I had 1/19 chance of Downs Syndrome so bad the NIPT. The results were about 4 days later and were low risk. No further issues in pregnancy at all.

I was 38 which think made the calculation higher.

lots of love xx

Pearlinda · 28/05/2024 10:38

@Cmac334 Ahhhhh just seen you’ve got your results!!! That’s great
