I posted this in pregnancy group but had no response so wanted to try where.

Hi, I am new to the site so I’m not sure if I’m posting in the right department.
I am looking for any advise or people experiences as i am thinking the worst.
I had my 20 week scan on 21st and was told all baby’s measurements are under the 3rd centile. I was sent for another scan in more detail on 23rd this scan showed baby is below 3rd centile and had a small 2.3mm pericardial effusion and skin oedema around stomach area. I was given TORCH test the same day and referred to FMU for further testing/investigation. I was informed it could be Chromosomes abnormalities, infection or something else. I was told the FMU can diagnose/
give a prognosis I am obviously very worried I have had 6 other children all on the small side all of them had no sign of SGA at 20 weeks this only appeared with them at 32 + weeks, and they have no health issues. Any advise would be appreciated.

I’m sorry you’re in this place of enormous worry and anxiety. I’ve been there. The wait to find out what’s going on is so hard. Have they offered an amniocentesis?

Hi, thank you for replying. I haven’t been offered anything as of yet I have my first appointment tomorrow with FMU I’m not sure if that’s something they was suggest or my current hospital?

One thing I’ve learned (in my history of unhappy scans… mixed in with the happy ones!) is that what can be worrisome news can (and often does) end up being much more hopeful and much more solvable than we realise. There is always hope. The wait for your appointment is agonising but remember, you will have answers; it may not be nearly as scary as you’re expecting. And for so many conditions, there are many good solutions.

FMU will guide you through the diagnostic tests that they’ll likely suggest. I imagine they’ll suggest an amniocentesis. Come back and tell us. I’ve had a lot of experience with amniocentesis/CVS and can reassure you if you end up on that path. You’re in good hands I’m sure. I wish I could remove your worry. I can completely relate to what you’re going through. 💐

Thank you for your reassurance, although I knew I shouldn’t I did google and it had me very worried. I will let update tomorrow after my appointment.

Good luck OP, crossing everything for a positive outcome.

Update - was seen by FMU today, this scan showed no signs of hydrops. They did look at my previous scan from my hospital and said although it was present back then today it was gone. Infection has also been ruled out along with placenta issues. Most likely cause is chromosomes issues given his very small size so early on, indications point to trisomy 21 we was offered further testing to find out for certain but has it carries risk me and my partner decided not to know for now. Overall we felt so much relief after the appointment. X
