Unable to do NT screening

I had my 12 week scan today and the sonographer was unable to do the NT screening due to the baby’s position. The baby had its chin tucked in to its chest and was curled up in a ball. She said this was nothing to worry about but they couldn’t tell me my due date so booked me back in for 16 weeks. I asked about the NT screening and she said she couldn’t do the measurement but said she didn’t see anything worrying.

She tried to reassure me by saying the blood test at 16 weeks is just as good but having had a quick look in to this it seems the NT is more reliable and the blood test can’t test for Edward’s and Patau.

Should I push to have another NT scan before 14 weeks? Does anyone have any advice please?

I thought the blood tests DID test for Edwards and Patsy? They aren't done by the NT. .It seems odd she's not booked you in sooner, I'd have expected to be rebooked in fairly quickly if they couldn't get any proper gestation measurements. Can you speak to your normal midwife?

Thanks @SleepingStandingUp apologies I mean the ‘quad test’ blood test they have offered me at 16 weeks doesn’t test for Edward’s and Patau as far as I’m aware. I will give my midwife a call tomorrow, although I’ve just realised she never gave me a contact number!

I have an appointment with a Consultant regarding something else on Monday so if I’m unable to speak to my midwife I will speak to the Consultant on Monday and ask their advice

The Quad Test is less accurate than the Combined Test (NT scan and hormone blood test). Hospital policies may not allow a repeat NT Scan and it cant be done after 14 weeks. Another option would be to have a self funded NIPT blood test.

I’d go for NIPT testing instead if the result is important to you- far more accurate. You can have that done now (but it costs).

Thanks for your replies. I’m aware of the NIPT test but I’m not sure I can stretch to that as I’m saving for mat leave. I’ll speak to my Midwife or Consultant and see what they say

I had the same thing at my dating week scan, couldn't get all the measurements done so booked me to come back in two weeks time for another scan, went back and they said no scan just doing bloods and I must of got confused, even though the sonagrapher took me to reception and told them I needed another scan.
went for a private one around 17 weeks and was told everything looked fine, just had my mid term scan and told NT measurement was higher the. They liked and have been booked into see a fetal medicine specialist in a few days time.

if it wasn't in a couple of days I'd book a not her private one, but might be worth doing for yourself, I've seen prices range from £40 to £60 not too bad and worth the money if it puts your mind at ease
