Do I have gestational diabetes?

Hi all

I had my GTT today and just had my results back via my app, but with no accompanying analysis of the results.

Results are as follows:

fasting - 4.7
one hour - 7.3
two hours - 6.5

There seems to be so much conflicting information online.

Is anybody able to give me an idea as to whether I am likely to be diagnosed with GD or not?

Thanks in advance x

With mine the threshold for fasting was 5.2 and after fasting was 7.7 so you should be fine.

After the glucose was 7.7 sorry

The NHS website https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/gestational-diabetes/ links to this one https://labtestsonline.org.uk/tests/glucose-tests which suggests your readings are normal, but see what they say when they get back to you - do you have a midwife appointment soon? Or is there a number you can ring to ask?

Thank you both that’s helpful! We get results in a week by post but if I’m +ve I’d like to know sooner so I can start making necessary dietary changes.

Hopefully all ok :)

In the meantime you can swap white for brown rice, white for sweet potatoes and no juice or sugary drinks, good bit of protein with each meal.

I had GD and my diet was mainly

  • yoghurt and berries
  • omelette and veg
  • bean chilli and brown rice and salad

Snacks- crudités and sour cream dips.

Don't eat more than 30g of carbs with a meal. So no crisps!

In my trust that wouldn't be GDM but everywhere has different cut offs so I wouldn't want to say for sure.

All fine - got the letter via the app this morning. My readings as against the Trust’s threshold readings attached if of interest for anybody returning to this thread!

Crazy how each hospital differs with things like that! That's very different to where I work.

Totally agree @littlemissalwaystired - that’s why I was so confused by all the conflicting advice online.

Out of interest are the thresholds at your hospital higher or lower?
