Low Fetal Fraction

Hello,

I'm new here but looking to speak to people who have gone through or are currently going through the same thing.

So I had my NIPT test done 1 week ago today and I was 10.4 days pregnant.

I got a call last night to tell me that there wasn't enough fetal fraction in the blood and it needed to be 4% but mine was 3.5% so I have to go back and do it again.

I have my 12 week scan on Monday so I'm assuming I would more than likely hear of there was anything wrong before my NIPT test.

Has anyone had to do it again and was it ok?

Thanks x

Yes I had the same,I was 13 weeks though. Second nipt worked and came back low .
I had mine as NHS screening had me as high risk for trisomy 21.
The nipt is much more in depth so hopefully your second test will work

Hi @Taylor3787

10.4 is still quite early for a definitive NIPT result. Have they offered you a blood redraw? They usually say wait 2 weeks since the last test (I have lots of experience with this, see below!). I've read fetal fraction increases by 0.1% per week between 10 and 21 weeks of gestation and 1% per week after 21 weeks.

I've had 5 inconclusive NIPTs (2 on NHS, 3 privately) due to low FF. I opted for an amnio as the next step which I'm currently waiting on the results for.

The private lab was able to tell me my Fetal Fraction levels came up as 3.3%, 3.5% and 3.9% during the 3 tests so I was almost at their 4% threshold however they don't advise more than 3 blood draws so I got a refund.

My 12-week NHS scan was scheduled for when I was 13.5 weeks (and on the day they said I was measuring 14 weeks) so too far along for an NT measurement. Based on the quad blood test I came back with increased risk for Downs (1 in 139).

I'm still nervous however had a fairly detailed scan before the amnio procedure and consultant said he was optimistic all was progressing as he would expect.

Good luck, sounds like if you're at 3.5% already you're on the right track.
