I had my 12 week scan today. I’m actually 13 weeks. Baby was measuring perfectly and my dates were bang on but then the sonographer told me that the Nuchal fold was worryingly thick; 6.4mm.
I’ve been referred to a fetal medicine consultant tomorrow for further scans and my bloods today have been fast tracked. I’m absolutely terrified and devastated. Does anyone have any experience of this that they can share?

No experience of high Nuchal but just wanted to see how you got on. Hope you're ok

Hi @oneweecraw Im so sorry you’re going through such a worrying time. Our son had an NT measurement of 4.7mm at his 12 week scan and all tests were clear, he arrived safe and well and is 3 in a few weeks :) I read many stories of high NT measurements at the time and there were definitely positive outcomes including for those higher than the reading we had - so there is still hope. How did your scan with fetal medicine go? I remember how torturous that time felt as we waited for news from the next test, it really does feel like life stands still :( I’m thinking of you and here if you want to chat Xx

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately we discovered we also had fetal hydrops and our bloods came back as 1:2 for Down syndrome. I had the CVS test done and I'm seeing a fetal cardiologist this week. It's just so much to take in. X

I'm so sorry. I have been in an almost identical situation. It was an incredibly tough time and sadly not the outcome you will want to hear. I came to the tough decision to be induced/terminate and had my baby at 16 weeks as he had too many health issues. As a much wanted pregnancy it was utterly heartbreaking. If you have any questions I will try my best to answer.

You never know until you speak with the specialist but am thinking of you, wishing you a positive outcome.

I just wanted to
Update for anyone searching these titles later. I found out today that my baby does have Down's syndrome. I also found out that she's a little girl 💓. We're having another scan this week to have another look at the hydrops in the hope that they're decreasing, thank you for your kind wishes and comments xx

Thanks for updating. Had identical experience with my first born. Now 6 years old and doing really well. A lot of medical appointments but all worth it. 💕

oneweecraw · 12/06/2023 23:07

Hi @boattrip Thank you for replying. That's so reassuring, did the hydrops just re absorb?

Yes, I'll never forget being told that everything had resolved. Think the consultant was geared up for a very different appointment. I know the odds scary but just wanted to share my positive story to give you hope and comfort 💕

oneweecraw · 12/06/2023 23:11

Honestly, that has settled my mind so much tonight. Thank you. Sending you so much love xx

Thanks for updating OP - I really hope your little girl’s hydrops is looking better this week. Thinking of you and really hoping for the best Xx

Hi @oneweecraw, congratulations on your pregnancy and hope that subsequent appointments become more reassuring. I've no experience with hydrops but my little girl was born with that third chromosome. She will be 8 this August and is absolutely amazing. I was so proud of this card she wrote for her daddy last week!

Here she is (and her card!)
