1 in 212 probability for Downs

I just had my first trimester blood screening results back- as high risk.

The NT on ultrasound was 1.6mm (which is within normal range) but my b-HCG is 3.02 (too high) and PAPP-A 0.57 (too low). We were told we have a 1 in 212 chance of Downs.

We have a private Harmony test tomorrow and NHS NIPT test on Monday- doing both just to be safe. But it’s a week wait for results so wondering if anyone else had these results and got a negative (low risk) NIPT/Harmony test? It’s just so worrying 😢

I had 1-6 chance. Daughter doesn't have downs but is autistic which obviously we couldn't see on the advanced scans. I rejected the offered amniocenteisis.

1-212 the chances are the baby will be one of the 211.

Try not to worry too much x

My children were 1 in 7 and 1 in 5. Neither have Downs. The tests are designed to be sensitive to potential risk, but that means many people who are going to test negative following an amnio or Harmony test will be flagged as at risk.

It is stressful, but you just have to wait for the results. https://www.arc-uk.org/tests-explained/ is really good - you can talk to them by phone too.

Tests explained - Antenatal Results and Choices (ARC)

All pregnant women in the UK are offered antenatal screening tests*.  It is always your choice to have a screening test. Screening tests are not harmful to your baby but they can lead to decisions about tests that do carry a risk to your pregnancy. Dia...

I had a 1 in less than 5 chance and received a low risk NIPT. NT was 3.3mm, HCG was around 3 mom and PAPP-A about 0.7 I think. Baby was born last month and has no chromosomal abnormalities.

Think about the fact you have a 211/212 of the baby not being high risk. All the best to you.

With my 3rd I had a 1 in 76 chance of Downs, pretty much for the same reasons as you. I had the amino (harmony very expensive where we are) and no Downs. My consultant was absolutely brilliant, but the thing that really stuck with me was when she said 'if I offered you a bag of balls and asked you to pick one how likely is it you'd pick the Downs one?'. Obviously I know this is a 1 in 76 chance and what that means, but when it's such a highly emotive time, having it so clearly and plainly and physically put down in front of me made it so much clearer. I really really hope you get the result you're looking for, sending so much love, it is such a difficult time.

Can I ask why you are doing harmony and Iona test?

AndyMum · 24/05/2023 16:54

We just got our Harmony results back- it came back as 1 in 10,000 low risk. So happy!!!!!! It’s been the most horrible week waiting…
