Worried About Low Papp A

Hello,

I was at the hospital this morning for a NIPT and midwife said my Papp-A levels were low (reading 0.24) and said I'd need growth scans after 20 weeks.

I've since done the cardinal sin which is Google what it means and wish I hadn't. Now I'm panicking that it means bad news and I'm going to lose this baby too 😪

Anybody else been where I am? I'm 13+3 and had a 1 in 40 risk of Downs Syndrome hence why I agreed to an NIPT.

How are you doing Phoenix? I don’t have any advice for you but hope you are getting the support you need.

Hey @Phoenixwings1989 , how are you? I had the same thing, I came up high risk for DS, had a low risk NIPT and they diagnosed with having low Papp-a. I was advised not to take aspirin although others have been told to do so. I had growth scans every fortnight from 20 weeks and it was a really anxious time but largely everything was fine. I had to have repeat scans a couple of times (7 days after) because his oxygen flow seemed low (the PI measurement) but it always picked back up. At 39 weeks oxygen flow seemed low again and his growth fell below what they wanted so I was whisked in for an induction. I had a great birth and my baby boy was born happy and healthy in October 22. He was diddy at 6lb 3oz but thrived from day one.

Thinking of you and sending positive energy! X

@Phoenixwings1989 what did your NIPT result come back as?
im currently going through the same everything normal but low pappa a of 0.21. Haven’t been started on aspirin yet awaiting nipt results due back next Wednesday. My combined screening gave me a 1 in 129 Down syndrome.

Hello. There’s a low Papp a group on Facebook and there’s loads of us discussing things there as well as loads of stories to read of others in the same boat. My NIPT cane back clear and I’m taking asprin. Currently 23 weeks. Baby a bit small on scans but otherwise all looks fine

I had exactly the same OP but with 1:15 risk of downs and a lower Papp-A than you.

Had the growth scans. DD born one week past her due date at 7 pounds 13, is now a healthy 9 year old.

I had low pap a 4 years ago with my first- she was born a healthy baby girl at 39 weeks..

It's a risk factor doesn't mean it'll ever effect you. I couldn't get my head around it either, there's a wonderful Low Pap A group on Facebook xx
