20 Week Scan at 25 Weeks?

Hi all,
I've recently received notice that my 20 week scan which was due to take place at 20w1d has been pushed on by 5 weeks to 25w1d.

Initially I wasn't too concerned as everything has been okay so far and I was planning to pay for a private gender and wellbeing scan in-between to bridge the gap between this and my last scan. (And because I'm incredibly impatient to know what I'm having😅)

I've since been told by some medically trained (though not in antenatal care) family members that leaving the scan until 25w is not ideal as if any problems are found it may be more problematic to do anything about them so much further along.
Obviously the private scans don't provide the same medical testing that the NHS will and I'm now a bit concerned that if something was to go wrong I might not know about it until it's too late.

I've been trying to contact the antenatal unit at my local hospital about moving the appointment back to an earlier date but I'm not having much luck getting through at the moment and it's making me more and more stressed.

I'm hoping that maybe some others here may be able to shed some light on any similar situations and perhaps put my mind at rest a bit that it's not that big of a deal, or let me know that I'm right to advocate for my baby and get the appointment moved again.

Thanks in advance🙏

I think its usually done between 18 and 21 weeks so any later than that, personally I would be asking for it to be brought forward. The NICE guidelines state it can be completed before 23 weeks so they're offering an appointment outside of the guidelines.

If you can't get through to them could you ask your midwife about it? Or even contact PALS.

I'm not medically trained but I wouldn't be happy about that either. It's an anomaly scan. If anomalies are found it can take a few weeks to arrange tests and get results.

I would really push for the scan to be brought forward.

I would push for it to be to earlier, have you got a contact number for your mid-wife?

Thanks all, I feel a bit better knowing I'm not being over dramatic wanting it brought forward!
I've tried my midwife aswell but in all honesty she's been about as much use as a chocolate teapot up to this point, I'll give her another call today and see if I can spur her into action.
I'll keep trying to get through to antenatal and hopefully with some perseverance I'll get it sorted.
Thank you all again!💖

Like the PP suggested, I'd put a complaint into PALS today and quote the NICE guidelines.

They may not be able to help you but it's worth a try.
