High Nuchal Fold 20 Weeks

Went for the 20 week scan today baby looks fine the sonographer said he has very long legs , all organs look fine heart and brain no concerns apart from the Nuchal Fold is measuring 7.5mm when the cut off is 6mm, we now have to go to fetal medicine for an ultrasound tomorrow to get re scanned and get this checked out , apparently this is a new check they now have to do at the 20 week scan but I am absolutely worried sick somethings wrong , our 12 week scan was a NT of 1.9mm and 1 in 10,000 chance of downs or tristomy so I just don’t understand. Has anyone been through the same and it came out okay ? Worried sick.

Hi there - just to say I hope that fetal medicine were able to give you some good advice. I haven’t had this happen but had increased nuchal translucency at 12 weeks so opted for amniocentesis and had some extra heart scans etc. so understand a little of how stressed and anxious you must be. They found nothing else of concern and I’m now 23 weeks so hoping baby will be healthy and well. Sending strength for any tests ahead and sending up a little prayer for you and baby. x

Im currently going through this right now.

My baby's was measuring at 8mm but everything else was and still is absolutely fine.

We went to get rescanned at 21 weeks and it measured at 6.1. So she advised there is a 15/20% chance baby may have downs.

I never had any screening done at 12 weeks as it really doesn’t matter to me or my partner, however to just feel more “prepared” I have opted to have the amino done at 30 weeks as the highest risk is early labour.

Hi , we went for a scan the next day and she re measured and got 6.1mm then done all the rest of the heart and measurements looked at all the other parts they look at and said it all looks okay then she said I will re measure the fold once more but he has flipped and moved during the scan and she got 8.5mm ! So I have no idea how it can go from 7.5 , 6.1 then to 8.5 it seems like his position is affecting the measurements. We spoke with a consultant who said she isn’t concerned and said she can offer us the amino but was reluctant as he looks okay in all other ways so we declined the amino, his a very longed for baby and I wasn’t comfortable with that decision, and to be honest the outcome wouldn’t affect our decision anyway we will love him just as much either way. I have a re scan at 24 weeks at my local hospital then back to Fetal medicine for a 28 week check up, I’m an anxious mess and it’s consuming me daily to be honest I feel like this has tainted my pregnancy experience. But after reading up on it we won’t be the first or the last to go through this! I hope all is well with you and just know you are not alone ❤️
