Very worried

I am 13 weeks pregnant with my 5th child, I am 39 years old.

Last week I received a ‘high probability’ result for T21 on an NIPT. A follow up ultrasound measured NT at 6mm

Things aren’t looking good.

I’m struggling not to lose hope. The prospect of having a child with a disability is frightening, particularly when I have 4 other children and there is no test to measure the severity of the condition.

Have you had results like this? Do you have a child with T21?

CVS on the 28th Dec but the genetic counsellor is already talking ‘options’ so I’m very very worried.

Hi @Momoko83 - I’m so sorry you’re going through a worrying time :( I don’t have direct experience - my situation was slightly different as we had a raised NT measurement but subsequent tests were clear. It all happened over Christmas though and it was such a difficult time so I’m sending you a lot of love. Hopefully someone with more experience to offer will comment soon. Thinking of you xxx

Ahhh, I just lost a message I was trying to post as the upload button wasn't working properly....

So sorry you're going through all this worry around Christmas time. My daughter (age 7) has Down's syndrome and is an absolute delight. She was diagnosed postnatally which was a huge shock at the time (I was given a 1 in 1900 chance with the combined test, so it wasn't even really on my radar), but she was born at 40+4 and hasn't had any medical complications. She was delayed at walking and talking but now her speech has really come on in leaps and bounds and she's a proper chatterbox! Yes, she can be hard work, but so can her 4 year old NT sister. For more information and stories from a wide variety of families, look at the Down's Syndrome Association and Positive About Down's Syndrome websites.

Good luck and try not to to worry. I wish you all the best Flowers

And here she is! An extremely old photo, albeit, as Mumsnet doesn't seem to be allowing me to access any recent ones 🙄
