HIGH NY CLEAR CVS

Hi Mums,

Looking for mums who have been in similar boats. I was referred on for a CVS after 3.8mm fluid in the neck at 12+6 weeks. My NIPT results were clear. My CVS came back clear and am now 15 weeks. All my scans to date they have checked baby over and everything was always fine except the fluid on the neck. I have been booked in for a scan at 16 weeks where they will check baby again structurally. I thought I’d be more relaxed at this point but I now I have this giant fear they’ll find more things wrong….

Hi @MOM1993 I have been where you are so huge hugs to you. Our youngest had an NT reading of 4.7mm at 12 weeks - we were already awaiting the NIPT and that came back low chance for the 3 chromosomal conditions they test for. We couldn’t have a CVS because of the placenta position and had an amnio to look at all chromosomes at 16 weeks alongside a detailed scan - all clear. We then had a heart scan at 20 weeks alongside the normal anomaly scan, again all clear and seemingly normal. It was an agonising wait and I can really sympathise but with each test coming back ‘normal’ I did relax a little more. The anxiety never went completely even though the consultant reassured us after 20 weeks that it just looked like ‘one of those things’. But our son came in to the world healthy and happy ❤️ I really hope the 16 week scan goes well and everything that follows - it was a case of getting through to the next test but after 20 weeks things did get easier. Hang in there and I’m wishing you all the very best! Xx

Hi OP I’m in a really similar situation. 18 weeks along. Nuchal was 3.6mm but NIPT low risk then amnio clear. We had a detailed scan at 17+2 weeks and all looks normal. I feel like I can’t relax and that I can’t look forward to this baby boy at all because something must be wrong. Even though everything so far is positive bar the original nuchal measurement. Sending love - it has been such an anxious and upsetting time.

@jmm499 thanks for your lovely positive story. I really hope I do start to feel better if the 20 week scan is normal too.

Beginning to feel some kicks (swooshes) now so the whole thing seems a bit more real. Just really hope and pray all will be well with this little one, and with yours too @MOM1993 x

Thanks for your reply lovelies!! With each test I get my hopes up but I’m trying to remind myself not to do that 😞 I have a beautiful 2yo so the emotional roller coaster is so challenging as I’m trying to be a happy mummy for him too. I have my 16 week scan in a couple days. I’m glad your scans have all been clear ♥️♥️♥️

It has been an emotional rollercoaster for sure. I think if we have good 20 week scans there is every reason to get our hopes up. From everything I have read, if CVS/amnio don’t show anything and the 20 week scan is normal, our risks are the same as anyone who is pregnant.

Also I know kiddos with heart defects and cleft palate not picked up until birth. And they are totally fine. So even if they do pick something up on the scan, it can still be a good outcome.

For me this has been a bit of a Pandora’s box experience. I had no idea all of the awful things which could show up at a 12 week scan without warning. I have two healthy boys and reasonably easy pregnancies with both. It has been very distressing.

Sending love and wishing you well. x

Hi @MOM1993 was all okay at your 20 week scan?

I am currently waiting on an amino at the moment due to a 4.8mm NT (rest was all fine) and it’s horrible. I had a NIPT already and that was negative for all 3 chromosomal disorders. One of my fears weirdly is if it comes back clear as do the scans but then it still leaving a cloud of fear over the pregnancy.

Hi! Oh you are in the thick of it 😭 it truly is the worst of it. I got my CVS results just shy of 16 weeks. Once they were clear I had a 16 week scan where they said everything looked great and the fluid around the neck had reduced. It was a long wait for my 20 week scan but again- everything came back looking perfect. At that point I was discharged from foetal genetics and back into normal pregnancy care.

I am 26 weeks now and still have my moments where I feel like they missed something. I don’t think I will be able to completely let go untill she is here in my arms.

My only advice is to take it one scan at a time- and celebrate the good results when you get them. I took a lot of comfort in the good news stories out there ♥️ I will be thinking of you and your little bub!
