Head circumference below 3 percentile

Hi Ladies,

Please looking for honest reviews (positive/negative) if any of you found that your baby's head circumference was below the 3 percentile in third trimester scan? And if your baby was born with any genetic abnormalities?

I went for a growth scan at 34 weeks and it was under 3 percentile where the rest of the body were all on 50% percentile.

Worse case It could be microcephaly or other genetic issues consultant said. No other anomalies were detected.

would like to hear your experience.

@hopeful02 Hi how did everything turn out? I’m worried sick as well as my sonographer wrote on the report that head circumference plotted below the 3rd centile.

@MrsJdot - I understand that you may be really worried as 3% may sound too low but in my case everything turned out to be absolutely fine. My daughter was born with a small percentile head and still has one as compared to other kids but she is hitting all her milestone before time. Was already crawling with (head support and not on knees) when she was 3 months! And seems like she almost about to start walking soon at 8 months.

I was asked to go through MRI and several blood tests and they were quite daunting emotionally. I really hope no one has to go through these things.. so please have faith everything will turn out just fine

It will probably be fine. These measurements are very inaccurate, and even if they are 3% is about 1 in 32.....not that remarkable.

I have a small head (need to buy child’s hats and glasses), and one of my kids has a small head which has come from me, the others normal size heads from DH. They didn’t worry with my baby as said obviously genetic right from the outset. They are now an adult and no issue whatsoever.

@HoppingPavlova thanks for the response, reminds me, I also wear glasses from the teenage/kids range (Specsavers), as adult sizes are just too big, I even fit in junior hats.
