Very high beta hcg

Hi Mummas

I have received my combined first trim screening results and my bhcg is super high (>5).

The Papp-a is normal.

I have an amniocentesis booked in for 15 weeks + 2.

Has anyone else had such high beta hcg and things turned out okay?

Thanks <3

Sorry that you haven't had any responses to this.

Have they said what they'll be testing for?

@PritiPatelsMaker thanks for responding.

Not specifically, but I understand it would be for chromosomal abnormalities.

My NIPT results have come back as low which is great - but I’m very anxious about the extremely elevated bhcg.

I was hoping someone else had been in a similar position!

I had this with both my pregnancies- during my first pregnancy it was flagged up by whoever looks at the in my first pregnancy and I was called in to see the consultant who looked at the blood results and sent me away saying it wasn't important. Second pregnancy my hcg was also unusually high and combined with my older age and a higher NT measurement put me into the higher risk category at the screening check so I had an amniocentesis. Both pregnancies ended up with healthy, full-term babies. I just seem to produce high levels of HCG.

Sorry, that first part made no sense! Should say in my first pregnancy it was flagged up by whoever looks at the blood test results so I was called in to see the consultant.

@basilmint thanks so much for sharing - that’s reassuring!!

I have found the numbers so odd. With my
first it was all relatively normal so very surprised to see I’m making 5x the amount of beta hcg this time!

If the amnio comes back all clear then hopefully that’s the end of it.

There was some suggestion high beta hcg could be linked to preeclampsia, but might be where other risks are present.

Thanks again x

Hey OP, how did you make out? Going through something similar <3

Sunnydays44 · 08/01/2023 10:39

@Sammi427 hi! I went ahead with the amniocentesis at 15 weeks and the results were clear of any chromosomal abnormalities and no one has mentioned it since. I’m 34 weeks along now and things seem to be going fine - hopefully in ~ 6 weeks I have very good and reassuring news to share! Hope everything turns out fine for you x
