Hi,
I concieved through ivf. I am currently 12.5 weeks pregnant. In this time i had 4 private scans (6,8,10,11 weeks) all was fine baby very active. Each time baby measured fine and matched my dates. Even 10 days ago when igad my last scan.
Yesterday i had my nhs dating scan and it didn't go well. They said baby wasn't stretching out so they said his legs seem small and found cysts in stomach. I then had bloods for screening tests. It was a horrible experience the sonographer was very cold. I realised we werent even offered a picture. I am sick with worry now ive been refered to fetal medicene. I am scared it could be edwards syndrome or patau syndrome. My originally due date was 11th november ( ivf transfer) and now theyve changed it to 15th november based on my scan yesterday. I am 32 concieved my son naturally 6 years ago. No family history of downs etc etc. i always think about worst case scenario and google. I am so so scared.

@Lemoncake5 those things could be typical of a 12 week scan and doesn't necessarily spell danger.

You should have received a report with measurements like the NT, HCG and pappa, are those within normal range?

This sounds like such a scary experience and that you weren't given any information/ support. I would recommend contacting PALs about the sonographer. In my experience they escalate things and do everything they can to make things right. I had a horrible experience with a sonographer when we got bad news at a scan and it made it so much worse than it needed to be. When is your next appointment? Have they given you any further information?

Sorry for the stress you've been through its a horrid time. When I had my 12 week scan everything looked fine on the screen but they said if there was a problem with my screening results the midwife would call within a week and if there was nothing to worry about I would get a letter in the post after that.

Lemoncake5 · 07/05/2022 14:12

The more i think about it the more i realise how awful the experience really was. I wasnt even told my due date or offered a picture. Literally aent on our way after having bloods. All they said was latest tuesday i will recieve results for the screening and then fetal medicene will scan me at 16 weeks. Nothing else. I wasnt given a report or anything else. Im left with so many questions and after going on google and thinking the worst im convinced its edwards syndrome or picau syndrome. But top half measurements were fine?? Clear features of nose were showing. Im left so anxious and feel sick.

Do you have an online portal that you can log in and see? My hospital used mypregnancynotes.com and I was able to log in there and see everything, although sometimes info wasn't inputted straight away or until after they had spoken to me first.
I'd give your midwife a call or text her saying you're very stressed out and can she give you a bit more info.

Lemoncake5 · 07/05/2022 16:34

Im on the badgernote app and nothing detailed has been posted. I havent even been given a number for my midwife. If i did i would contact her asap. Anyway for me to get it?

I managed to get through to a midwife but not my midwife. I told her my concerns and she said it happens when babies are in awkward position or wont move. She said the specialist will first review the scan and then decide if i need to be seen.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I went through a similar thing with an IVF pregnancy last year but I was referred to fetal medicine straight away (scan the next day). One thing that is reassuring is that they don’t want to see you again until 16 weeks so maybe this means they don’t think it’s anything very serious? I think if they were concerned it was edwards or pataus they wouldn’t just wait until a scan at 16 weeks.
It is completely unacceptable how you have been treated and they need to give you more information on this. I would definitely put a complaint into PALS and ask for an appointment for someone to explain the scan findings clearly and answer your worries and questions.

I went to have a private scan today and it was such a relief. The baby was active And the legs measured fine we saw the feet and toes. She was lovely enough to even measure the fluid below the head and said it was under 3mm. She said i should have been told there and then but she was surprised when i recalled the nhs scan.
she said the stomach did show a small cyst but she said it doesnt look serious or large and they can disapear or even post birth surgery. But on the whole baby measured fine and looked healthy and happy. At one point waving at us! Basically growing as it should be.
