High NT results - 7mm

Hello
We had our 12 weeks scan today and baby was in a very awkward position (facing away the entire time and the sonographer had a real hard time getting any measurements)

When she did manage to measure the NT, it showed as 7mm which I now know to be very very high.

Does anyone have any experience of this? (And any positive outcomes ? 🤞)

We are seeing the FMU next week for another scan and follow up discussions and NIPT/ CVS if necessary etc

Just to give you some positivity: My twin 2 had a NT measurement of 6.1mm. Long story short: he just had a short fat neck, still does age 5y 3m. We did have NIPT and a later amniocentesis for other reasons and all negative. He's perfectly normal and healthy.

@sparklecrazy thank you for a little bit of positivity! (Much needed in my googling frenzy 💗)

I’ve had very similar news to yourself with NT fluid of 4.7 and my bloods with my age ( nearly 40) have told me I’ve got a one in five chance of downs , edwards etc with one of my twins, the other is normal. Booked in for cvs and amino and see what that brings...
Ive googled, read forums and looked at the stories of positive and not so... can’t and should not speculate but thats easier said then done. Fingers crossed for you OP.

@Bordesleyhills it's so tough isn't it! I had a rescan (baby was in awkward position before) and it brought it down to 4.9mm. With my bloods I had 1 in 80 for downs and similar for the other 2 that they screen for. I think my age (30) brought the risk factor down with their formula that they use.

I had NIPT last week and am waiting for the results (they couldn't do cvs because of my placenta position)

Best of luck to you! Such an even difficult situation to be in with it being twins for you 💗 do you have a date for your procedures yet?

Mine had a measure of less than 4mm (can't actually remember the figure now!), I'm 30 and had a 1 in 20 chance of DS come back which shocked me. Did the NHS NIPT and came back low chance. All looked fine on 20wk scan too.
I posted here in a panic at the time but now it's a distant memory. The initial "test" the NHS do is notoriously inaccurate and worry inducing. Many in the industry don't take it up for their own babies. They either go straight to private NIFTY test or not at all.
Best of luck and as impossible as it is, try not to worry!

Annny27 · 26/04/2022 21:30

Thank you for sharing @LazyYogi yeah it is very anxiety inducing!! Glad everything is okay with your little one 💗

I didn't know much about combined screening atalll but the more I look into it, the less reliable it seems!

Wishing you the best of luck. Yes 6th may - local hospital offered me Birmingham and it’s the regional centre of excellence so reassured with that. Fingers crossed for us both.

Annny27 · 28/04/2022 14:42

@Bordesleyhills not too long to wait then! My hospital is a bigger one so they do them there. I have appointment in 2 weeks time for a re scan and potential amnio

Our NIPT results came back as low chance which is good news 🙏

Annny 27 yes the NIPT is a good sign , sadly it’s not accurate for twins apparently otherwise I would take it!

Annny27 · 29/04/2022 08:35

Awh yes I did see on the form I filled in that they said for twin pregnancy it wasn't accurate. That's a shame 😪

Have you told anyone about your pregnancy?

Some people know but mainly it’s that we are pregnant not twins. I have two of everything placentas etc so mine are not reliant on each other.

Best of luck tomorrow @Bordesleyhills xx

Thank you- dreading it but has to be done.

Bordesleyhills · 06/05/2022 13:28

For us Mother Nature has made the decision for us , no heart beat with our 2nd baby. However we are left so far with a healthy baby. We await our 20 week scan.

for anyone going through this- please take care on your journey - it’s a horrid place to be. Birmingham women’s were excellent - the staff are incredible

Annny27 · 06/05/2022 13:57

@Bordesleyhills so sorry for you loss 💗💗 and wishing you all the best with your pregnancy and your healthy baby xxx

Thank you and thanks for your support too. Makes such a difference when the consultant you have is a true medic who you can see really cares and was willing to take the time!

Mum0721 · 07/05/2022 08:00

So sorry for your loss xx
To anyone receiving a high NT - I had a 6.8 reading at 13 weeks with my little boy- went through absolute hell and decided to have an NIPT which came back with an very low chance of downs etc - had multiple scans and echos - gave birth to an absolutely healthy beautiful little boy in July last year who is now 10 months and thriving - I know how much this NT reading really spoiled my pregnancy and still reduces me to tears if I think about it but try to stay positive - it’s been proven wrong so many times xxx

Annny27 · 07/05/2022 08:22

Thank you @Mum0721 for sharing, so pleased that your little boy is healthy- did youhave amnio or cvs?! We have had our NIPT come back low and have another scan on Monday where the heart and stuff will be checked. Praying its good news for us too 🙏 🙏🙏

I had a scan yesterday at 13 weeks and was told baby’s nt was high. I don’t know what to do I keep being told to have hope but it’s not easy. I’ve read people have normal healthy baby’s after this but the reading was 13.8mm so I’ve got a gut feeling it’ll be bad news. I don’t know what to do 😢
I have a rescan on Tuesday with a consultant so will know more then but it feels like a lifetime away.

Our screening team was really helpful- your blood results will tell you more. I suggest you ask for the foetal medicine team pick you up. If offered the NIPT test take it - I couldn’t ask was carrying twins. I’ll warn you the wait is horrid- you will read s9me good and some bad. Fingers crossed for you

Melissaallison94 · 17/06/2022 11:53

Burton hospital were really good and referred me to Derby to see the foetal medicine team so hopefully I’ll know more then. The wait is the worst bit and you feel so out of control.

Hi. I’ve just been reading some messages on here regarding high NT measurement from their 12 week scan. I had mine and NT was at 6.3! I agreed to have NIPT which came back low risk. I still opted for Amnio which came back all clear. I’m now 23 weeks pregnant. I’ve had a couple of Anomoly scans and all looks ok. Has anyone had a NT measurement this high bit if a healthy baby?

Mum0721 · 02/09/2022 10:32

Hiya..at my 12 week scan in Jan 21 I was told my baby had an NT of 6.7 and that there was a 15% chance that they would be healthy.
I didn't want an amnio as it comes with a risk of miscarriage so I opted for an NIPT test and that came back fine.
Fast Forward to now and I have a perfectly healthy thriving little boy who is 14 months today! The worry and anxiety that the whole NT thing induced on me has never left me and it ruined what should have been an exciting time. I know its easy to say but as your scans have been fine I would try to relax mine were also fine but I found it hard. I wouldn't even have screening the next time as its proven to be highly inaccurate and for me the worry almost broke me. I'm sure your baby will be absolutely perfect :)

Mum0721 · 02/09/2022 10:35

Apologies I completely missed this through moving house - I had an NIPT. Hope everything has worked out for you :)
