Echogenic lungs and polyhydramnios

I'm absolutely terrified 😔 went for a private scan on Wednesday because I haven't been feeling right and my husband wanted to see the baby. We were visiting family so had childcare. The lady doing the scan found that I had too much amniotic fluid (polyhydramnios) and that the lungs appeared bright white. (She put it in the notes at echogenic lungs) . I called my midwife as she advised but I can't get a scan to check the lungs until March 7th. Everything I read online is difficult to understand but scary and doesn't have a great outcome. Everything I've read says the lung issue was picked up at the 20 week scan, but nothing was said at mine. The scan I just had was 33+4. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience on this at such a late stage? My anxiety is through the roof and I just feel like crying all of the time.

Hi Merleymoo,

We are so sorry you are experiencing this. We are posting on the thread to give it a little bump as we know there are likely to be other MNetters that may be able to give insight based on their own experiences or knowledge.

Hopefully this helps.
Wishing you all the best.

It seems that there are multiple causative factors that might result in the above condition and they vary in severity.

It doesn't necessarily spell a negative outcome but may suggest further monitoring and potentially treatment if it appears there's a low chance it will resolve on its own.

I appreciate its not a lot of info, but only doctors with access to your scan will be able to give most pertinent info for you.

Best of luck.
