Screening for DS

Hi everyone,

I'm 14 weeks pregnant with our first baby. We got told by our midwife yesterday that our screening for Down Syndrome came back as high risk with a 1.1% chance out of 90 that it could have downs.

We have opted for the harmony test through the NHS but now the waiting for the test results has got my mind racing. I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced similar ?

Many thanks :)

Hi, I had a risk score of 1/110 so similar to your results. I was in bits over it at the time but I had the harmony test and the results were low risk (1:10,000) and I felt really reassured. My baby was born a year ago and the harmony test was correct (I think it's incredibly rare to get a false negative). I did learn at the time that many women come out high risk on the regular screening because it's less accurate. Things like age really play a part. I was late 30's so just based on that alone I think my odds were 1:140. Try and stay positive and keep yourself distracted if you can. I hope your results come back low risk and you can relax and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy.
