Placenta function - what does it mean?!

Hi everyone,

So far everything in my pregnancy has been good / all my results are normal. I had my 15 week midwife appointment yesterday (although I’m 17 weeks further along) and she brought up that my placenta function is moderate. Now I have no idea what that means and when I try research absolutely nothing comes up. It’s my first pregnancy and although my midwife does not see it as a huge concern I’m now beside myself with worry. She’s offered me extra scan dates at 32 + 37 weeks but apart from that she seems fine. Am I overreacting?

I think it's to do with the blood flow in the placenta & how well it works at getting the right stuff to baby etc.

I can't reassure you but it sounds like it can be managed with monitoring.

I think you should write some questions down for your midwife and call them back. You should have all the information. Failing that perhaps see if you can speak with a GP over the phone etc to discuss.

You shouldn't be left feeling like you don't understand but if she isn't that concerned then you probably shouldn't be either.
