NHS Dating Scan

Hi ladies

I am 9+4 weeks and haven't yet received a letter for a dating scan. (It's our 2nd and can't remember how it was for my 1st over 3 years ago!)

Had our booking appt couple weeks ago and the midwife just advised we'd receive a letter.

When did you get yours?

Yours answers will let me know whether I need to nudge midwife or ring ultrasound dept direct or if I am just being impatient :-) think I worry about the backlog of NHS stuff we'll get missed and miss out on the important dating scan tests!

Thank you

How many weeks since your booking appointment with the midwife op? Sometimes it seems longer than it is when we are excited or anxious about something. If you haven't received the letter after 3 full weeks I'd give them a ring to chase it up.

If you are having the scan + blood test for Downs Edwards & Patau syndrome they don't do it before 11+2 where I used to work. So there's no rush.

For me having learned the hard way that admin isn't strong in my trust I'd cut out the middle man and ring the hospital where you'll have the scan directly as they will probably tell you the details of the booking before the letter makes it to you. The midwife would only have to ring herself and they are mad busy.

But I'd probably wait a few more days, maybe Mon/Tues yet. If you've got the app for your notes I may show up there but the hospital where I have my scans is the only one that persistently doesn't put appointments on there so don't rely on it!

I should say having seen a few threads on here about ladies that haven't been able to access screening due to scans taking too long to get actioned I definitely wouldn't adopt a wait and see approach for anything now.

Ring your midwife team or GP surgery and ask for the number of the administration team arranging the scans. They will confirm if one is booked in and if not they may give you a date then and there and advise the letter will follow.

I would contact the hospital directly and ask. At this stage they may say it’s still a bit early but I hadn’t received my letter by week 10 spent weeks phoning only to be booked in right at the end of week 13 after another anxious phone call and baby measured 14 weeks plus 2 days so it was too late to get the combined screening test. Plus the first time I phoned they had no record of me wanting the tests and I had to get my midwife to put in another request. So I’d at least phone to make sure you’re on the system.
