Hello,

Advice/reassurance very much needed right now. A long one pending so my apologies x

So I am currently 27+3. I had my Anomaly scan done at 20+3. The Sonographer had a little trouble at the time viewing the babies top lip and heart due to his position so she sent me for a walk and said to go back after an hour, which I did. The babies position still wasn’t great but she reassured me she had been able to get all she needed and all was well. The only down side was she couldn’t get me any decent profile pictures and at this point seemed to be rushing a bit with running behind.

Anyway, this morning I received a call from a senior midwife within the obstetrics department asking me if I mind coming back in for fetal cardiac scan as they have reviewed my images from the Anomaly scan and are not happy with what they can/can’t see.

I was a bit in shock at the time that I didn’t think to ask questions until after I had got off the phone. I now have to wait a day or 2 for someone to contact me with an appointment date.

Does anyone know if it is normal for all scans to be reviewed after all this time? Is it done automatically or would the Sonographer have requested for them to be looked at? Why has it taken 7 weeks?

Thank you all in advance for your replies. Stressed out mumma here just needing a bit of reassurance I guess.

Hi lovely @Stacy1987.

I don’t have the exact same experience as you. I had difficulty with my 20 week scan with the face and heart. Went back a week later and they confirmed baby has a cleft lip - they did mention this at my 20 week scan however and said they couldn’t see clearly. I then had a fetal cardiac scan a week after that.

I’m sure if they could see something, you would have been told there and then. I think perhaps it’s just where the scan pictures aren’t as clear and they just need to confirm it? I really don’t think they would have let you go a further 7 weeks if they had concerns. Try not to worry (easier said than done). My experience was really rushed but that’s because they could see some form of indicators xx

Hi Hun,

Thank you for your reply. I really appreciate it. I'm sorry to hear your little one has a cleft lip. It must have been very worrying to hear that but glad they got you back in asap to confirm for you and didn't leave you waiting.

I now have an appointment for Monday. Yes, I think like you say they are now just being careful and making sure they have images they are happy with.

Fingers crossed for Monday 🤞🏻 that all is ok.

I hope you and your little one are doing well.
