Really high HCG and PAPP-A

Hi

I’ve just had my combined test and come away with a low NT measurement and an overall low risk result, which is great - but I’ve looked at the report and realised my blood stats seem insanely high!

HCG - 3.5174 MoM
PAPP-A - 2.5989 MoM

Has anyone else had incredibly high HCG in particular (I thought this was a marker for possible problems!)

With my son both MoMs were somewhere around 1 so I feel quite concerned.

Thanks Smile

I had similar blood results when I had my screening back before Christmas. Like you I was very concerned about the numbers so thought I would let you know my experience as I found it very hard to find information on both results being high. The results came back as;
HCG - 3.184 MoM
PAPP-A - 3.000 MoM
When I spoke to my consultant she said they were nothing to worry about as even though they were high, they were balanced e.g. the HCG was not higher than the papp-A.

We have just welcomed a healthy baby boy into our family 4 weeks ago so for us the results were nothing to worry about. Hope our experience helps but please speak to the consultant/ midwife to help with your anxiety.
P.S our DS risk was approx 1:7,000 and Edwards/Pataus 1/10,000. (age 34)

@fluffybunny86

Thank you so much for your reply, I really appreciate it.

That’s exactly it, I’ve read lots of negative things about HCG being high and Papp-A being low but I’m finding it impossible to find any information about what it means when both numbers are really high!

You and I are the same age and we had very similar risk results too. So it’s so reassuring to hear you had an uneventful pregnancy and a healthy little boy. Congratulations and thank you again for replying. X

No problem at all, I remember how frustrating it is to find the information. Another thing the consultant mentioned was that there were issues with low papp-A but nothing associated with high papp-A. I wish you all the best with your Pregnancy.

And thank you for your well wishes, we couldn't have asked for a better outcome.
