I am 29 and expecting our second baby in October. We have had IVF to conceive (same sex relationship)
I had the blood test to tell me the risk of DS it came back as 1:69. This possibly was (my midwife said) because my PAPP A was low. I have read that your Papp A can be low due to IVF. Has anyone else heard this please
We live in Australia

@3boyshere I’m probably not the best person to ask about this, however my understanding is low PAPP-A and high HCG are indicators of Downs, so might be helpful to have those figures. Did your midwife share them?

Your age should not be high in the equation as you’re young. But if same model used in the NHS, Nuchal measurements might also impact.

For the other Trisomies (Edwards and Pataus) usually HCG and PAPP-A are both low. My PAPP-A was about 1/10th of the average in my recent pregnancy and that put my risk pretty high xx

Sorry don’t know a lot about serum markers and IVF specifically, but I understand in general risks can be higher in some instances with IVF, so would make sense x

@3boyshere I know it's so scary to receive this information, I just recently experienced this as well, with a 1:4 result.

This is just a screen where they take various factors into account including age, smoking status, hormone levels and NT. I am not sure if IVF is a consideration. Based on the statistics there is a number generated, in your case it's 1:69

Three indicators of Downs Syndrome are

  • Low PAPP A
  • High Beta HCG
  • High NT

Do you know what your HCG and NT were?

I've been following these threads on this for weeks since my results and I have yet to see anyone with a high ratio like yours come back positive.

What did your doctor say for next step?

@JaiPow thank you for your reply. My midwife did not give me the numbers. I will ask on my next visit. If you do not mind me asking what were the results of your harmony test if you did decide to have it? x
