False negative harmony risk and reverse ductus venoses

Morning. I am 41 so immediately in high risk bracket so had Harmony test at FMC. Results came back low risk 1/10,000. The clinic then also do a 12 week scan which again was all fine except they spotted a reverse ductus venoses which increases risk of DS (or cardiac problem). When I left the clinic they gave me 1/48 risk of DS. So confused as I thought the harmony would trump the scan? Is this not the case? I need to go back at 16 weeks for them to check again but I’m a ball of anxiety.

Hi OP,

sorry you're finding yourself worrying.
The harmony test does trump the combined test for DS and your high chance result is a combination of your age (massive factor unfortunately) and the ultrasound findings. It's hard not to worry, that's completely understandable, but with a 1/10000 chance I wouldn't worry about the chromosomal aspect.

@SleepEatPoopRepeat so sorry you’re going through this! Have you spoken to your consultant to ask for further explanation? What the prognosis might be and possible explanation for this assessment of risk? Other conditions than Downs for instance if it is not Downs?

I know with my own pregnancy last year, we were basically told the ultrasound was the most reliable indicator of baby’s health following positive screening and invasive tests for Edwards Syndrome. Every circumstance is unique. But I absolutely wouldn’t be afraid to put a list together of questions and contact your consultant, Fetal medicine midwife, even via phone or email if need be. Do whatever you need to do for peace of mind. These tests can be a can of worms.
