12 weeks screening

Hi, I had my 12 week scan last Thursday. I was so excited and happy to see a jumping baby on a screen and hear the heartbeat of my unborn baby. I did the down and Edwards syndrome screening and didn’t think much about it after my hospital visit. Unfortunately on Monday I received a phone call from the hospital...I knew straight away that it’s not going to be a good news. The midwife sounded quite concerned and said that my Down syndrome results came back as high - 1:110 (edwards/patau negative 1:31000). I was shocked, upset and teary. As a 29 year old I was not expecting anything being wrong. I was given options for further test and went for private NIPT blood test as it was the only 100% safe option that gives you 99.8% reliable result. I will get the results by Friday but I am loosing my mind...On one hand that’s only less than 1% chance that my baby has Down syndrome, on the other hand the chance is high for my age. Did any of you have a similar result? I think I’m just looking for reassurance:(
Thanks xx

I had the exact same result earlier this year. It was such a shock and a very anxious time. I had the harmony test and it came back low risk (1:10,000) and my daughter was born without any medical issues last month.

The chances of your baby having Down syndrome is less than 1% but I know when you're in the thick of anxiety about it all, it's hard to stay focused on that! The waiting is horrible but hopefully your NIPT will come back low risk also and you can then relax and enjoy your pregnancy. Good luck!

I've been through this too OP. I had an amnio and all was fine, but the wait is really hard. Wishing you all the best.

I've been through this too and it was a huge, huge shock. I opted for NIPT too which came back as highly unlikely. The test is so accurate that you can be confident in the result. Chances are that all will be fine but it is a very scary time.

I was in a very similar position to you! I am the same age so wasn't expecting there to be an issue, however had a nuchal scan measurement of 3.3mm on the 12 week scan with suspected cystic hygromas. Bloods came back with 1:22 chance of downs. Consultant rescanned me two days later and nuchal mm had already decreased by 0.5 so decided against the CVS. Had the NIPT instead and all came back low risk. The test is extremely reliable (I think like 99.9%) but my god the week long wait is agony. It will all be fine though honestly, the odds are in your favour Smile

Hi @mabel12345 I was In the same position a few weeks ago. My 12 week scan was fine, NT fine, but I then got a call to say I was 1:89 risk for Down Syndrome. My Papp-a level is low and my HCG was high and this combination meant I was high risk. I am also 29 so it was a real shock. I opted for NIPT and the wait was just awful, I really struggled to think of anything else but my results. I got my call last Tuesday to say that I was low risk 1:10,000 and the relief was immense. It's such a hard time but your odds are good so try to stay calm and focus on that. Fingers crossed you hear tomorrow Thanks

@Bright81@CheeseandWine91@Aria2015@KittenCalledBob@Liveforholidays

I received my results yesterday after a looong, anxious wait and its a good news, the chance for trisomy 21 is less than 1:10 000 (and its a lil girl 🥲)
Thank you so much for your kind words and I wish you all the best !
