Beta hcg

Okay so I had my beta hcg done super early at around 3 weeks 3 days and the level was 44, and they were worrying that the pregnancy would fail, then I had them taken at 4 weeks 3 days and my hcg had gone up to 936. Normal rates for 4 weeks are up to 426 but mines more than twice that amount and there's no way my dates are wrong by more than a day or two, I don't really know how to process this, I've lost 5 pregnancies before, I've never had hcg levels go like this and I have my next hcg test a week today to check were still viable for an epau referral, I hate this feeling 😬😬😬😬

Sorry you’re going through this and sorry to hear of your previous losses.
But - this is normal. The actual number can vary so much that it’s almost meaningless, the important thing is that it’s rising.
If your level was 436 or lower you’d probably be worried as well because that wouldn’t be doubling every 48h!
Can I ask what the reasoning is for checking again in a week? I think it might also create anxiety for you!

MalbecIsMyOne · 05/09/2020 20:01

Twin pregnancy?

TenThousandSpoons0 · 05/09/2020 20:34

Also I wondered where you were getting the number 426 from so I did a quick google, I see it’s on some of the rough charts for4 weeks (though not all!). Bear in mind that it doubles roughly every 2-3 days, and that it may well have been 426 if taken at 4 weeks exactly, but it was taken three days later so double that range is also normal....
also I re read your post and was wondering what you meant that they were worrying the pregnancy would fail with a level of 44 at 3w3d?? Because that is also normal?
I can see why you’ll be very very anxious this time but honestly these hcg levels are really reassuring for now, and time will tell how things will turn out. Good luck.

Thank you for replying, I think they just looked at the number 44 without taking into consideration how early I was, they did the intial blood test and then again a week later to confirm but they're putting a referral in to the epau on the 14th so they want to just check that the numbers are still rising nicely. I just think I'm going to be anxious regardless, it's quite nice hearing that the numbers have gone up they've never risen this much for me before so fingers crossed its a good sign 🤞

And totally got the number from google, I think I'm just trying desperately to get an answer on what's going to happen when I just have to wait, it feels impossible waiting at the moment and I'm only 5 weeks! Got another 7 until we're out the danger zone I'm just trying to take every day as it comes but it's not exactly something you can ignore

I know what you mean about trying to predict the future - early pregnancy is so hard! But really all seems well from what you say :)
There will also be a huuuge range of normal for your next test - anything from 4000 to about 15000 or so so don’t get too worried about it! And if you can try to hold out a bit, its often better to try to wait before having a scan, as scanning too early also will add unneeded anxiety. Good luck :)

Viletta · 07/09/2020 18:38

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I think your hcg is good for 4w, higher hcg is better than lower. Are you booking early scan? This has put my mind at ease a bit.

Cat1324354 · 09/09/2020 07:29

I was just going to wait until my epau referral for a scan but I'm majorly panicking now, so I'm at a private early scan today, hopefully I'll be far gone enough to pick up the baby on the scan, fingers crossed for a heartbeat for me, I've got a third hcg test on Friday and if they've stay rising my epau referral will be on the monday, I'm trying not to panic about everything but it's really hard not to 😬 thank you so much guys, you're really helping me chill out, I've been much better since this thread

Fingers crossed for you. What you want to see at this stage is basically just a small gestation sac - seeing a yolk sac, fetal pole or even heartbeat would be an added bonus so early but NORMAL not to see those at only (?under) 5 weeks

Cat1324354 · 09/09/2020 22:19

I'm so glad you've been holding my hand through this, I had the scan today and I'm measuring around 5 weeksish, baby's only 2mm and there was a heartbeat! And the yolk sac, I was so sure I was 6 weeks, fingers crossed baby keeps growing 🤞

Actually the miscarriage rate drops to about 5% once a heartbeat has been seen. So if ypu have a scan next week at 8 weeks and there is a proper heartbeat then you're already a lot safer than you thought.

It never becomes zero though, so no guarantees.

Cross posted, I was distracted between typing and sending. Good news OP. I hope it goes well for you

Hey, do you have an update on this please. I was tested last week at 3.5weeks and my HCG was 450 already so was slightly worried that it's a little high. So wondered how you got on. Since getting pregnant I thought it could be twins as I am a twin and they run in my family but it's too soon to tell as I'll be 5 weeks next Tuesday Apologies I know this post is old.

Hi I had a care plan appointment put in place I went Thursday just gone and I’m 18 weeks , they said when I had the Down syndrome testing at 12 weeks they found a high hormone in my placenta called Beta hCG they said this is associated with reduced placental function with baby with lower birth weight , the consultant said this doesn’t change the fact my baby is on the low risk scale with Down syndrome she is 1-5000 , I’m 18 weeks currently. They said for me to take aspirin however I was on this all ready due to my mom having pre eclampsia with my little sister , has anyone else had this or heard of this I just feel a bit worried , they will see how she is on my 20weeks scan and said if anything is showing she is growing small I will have more scans :) x
