Please help - high inhibin A

In a nutshell, they couldn't do the combined test as baby was in a position where they couldn't take the measurement.

Did the quad and one chemical Inhibin A was unusually high which has made the consultant doubt the accuracy of the quad test as I am only 25 and its given me a high risk of 1 in 5 when according to my age I would only be 1 in 1300.

Consultant does think the test could be wrong/inconclusive.

Can't find any other reason for the Inhibin A being high but I do have grey platelets syndrome.

Now waiting for Harmony test results. Had a scan today and some of the markers i.e the nose bone seem to be normal and not down syndrome like.

Any advice?

Not sure what inhibin A is without looking it up - I had high hcg and low Papp A for my combined tests and plus my age at the time (38) it gave me a 1:19 result. I had CVS and all was completely fine! Don't rely too much on the combined tests - I had two harmony tests as well which both showed very low/minimal risk and that's what was right :)

Baby was 5 weeks early which I suspect had to do with the low Papp A result but I never had a debrief. Otherwise is now nearly 2 and extremely bright, happy and healthy 🙏🏼

... meant to say don't rely AT ALL on the combined tests Grin

Thank you so much for the response @bornninthe80s

Im reading a lot about how the combined test and quad test can be false. And even my consultant doesn't believe in the result for my quad test so hoping its just a blip!

Also scan seemed to show nasal bone etc very strongly so fingers crossed!

Glad everything ended up okay with yours.

Sorry you're going through the wait. I remember it like it was yesterday and I think I've actually got a bit of remaining trauma around the whole thing.

I'm hopeful for you as I think the hormone tests are a load of crap! I got a happy result from harmony but still elected for CVS.

Let us know how you get on. You should get the results early this week? X

Was supposed to get results on Friday but they didn't come through. So another weekend with a wait. Find out on Monday hopefully which is also my birthday so hoping for good news!

@ttcchapter1 got everything crossed for you! And happy birthday for Monday. Let me know how you get on (if you want to of course). Thanks

@bornninthe80s hi! Update: i got a no result from the first harmony on Monday and the nurse asked me to come in to take more bloods as harmony advise you to take another draw of blood. Hopefully find out by friday and wont need to wait another weekend. Its so nerve racking and extremely annoying though :(

Apparently there wasnt enough fetal dna in the bloods but after a lot of googling this could simply be because the blood samples were taken on a friday and left over the weekend and the fetal dna may have gone by then.

Hoping they receive the bloods today and at-least test them tomorrow.

I have heard some positive stories online and on MN about redraws on the harmony and still getting a low probability result for downs syndrome.

If this fails I may have to have the amniocentesis or go to a private clinic to do the harmony again instead of through the nhs so that atleast the same clinic that takes the blood also tests it?

How frustrating for you @ttcchapter1 😞 hope you managed to enjoy your birthday somewhat. I know how all-consuming it can be waiting for these results!

I did go private for harmony as did it as early as possible. Unfortunately redraws can happen but this has no bearing on the results as far as I'm aware, and I'm sure it won't happen again!

I did go for CVS as I was quite upset about the combined test results, I hear amnio is even less risky (and CVS is low risk too) but of course it's your choice 🙏🏼

Thinking of you and hoping for speedy results this week! X

bornninthe80s · 25/08/2020 08:33

@ttcchapter1 how are you? X

ttcchapter1 · 04/09/2020 23:15

@bornninthe80s hi! Sorry for late response. Ended up getting a second no result on the harmony! Had an amnio this Wednesday and results came back today as normal. Just hoping everythings went will with the amnio. Got slight tenderness but no bleeding at all or any other symptoms. My 20 week scan is on monday so that will be some reassurance and then after that i can hopefully get back to enjoying being pregnant. Thank you so much for your kind words and support!

@ttcchapter1 wow what amazing news! So so pleased to hear it Smile Amnio picks up loads so it's great that is all clear. I imagine the wait for those results was pretty tough.

20 weeks - halfway to meeting little bean Smile
