Hi all

First of all I want to say what a big help this forum was when I had my blood and scan last week and was nervous and confused.

So today I had my results. 1/66 for downs. I am 39. Midwife said my bloods were good as she expected it to be 1/49. I found out in Scotland they dont screen for another chromosome conditions. Has anybody else encountered this ?

I am anxious about needle test so she has suggested we book me in for my 20 week scan a wee bit earlier and see if they can see any soft markers and if so they can do test there and then.

I guess I am just looking for similar experiences and some advice !

There is so much to think about (and worry about) when you are pregnant. I am sorry that you are having to deal with this.
In Scotland you are only given an estimate of the chance of Down’s syndrome. In England women are also offered information about Patau and Edwards syndromes.
Your midwife’s comment leads me to assume that you are in your 40s? The calculation assumes that the chance of chromosomal issues is pretty high once you are 40+, but almost certainly this is exaggerated in these results (the data they are based on is very old research when few women in their 40s were having babies)
What you do next needs to be led by what it would mean for you if your baby was that 1 in 66. Of course, 65 out of 66 chance says your baby is not affected. This might be worth a read yourmidwife.org.uk/antenatal-screening-tests/a-high-chance-result-from-a-combined-test/
Happy to answer any questions x

Hi , I was in a similar situation to you a few weeks ago. I'm 38 and my nhs screening for downs came back high risk too . 1:63 .
My NT was 2.1 and as far as my midwife was concerned my bloods were in the normal range.
I am also in Scotland and went for the Harmony Test at a private clinic which is a NIPT . The results came back in 5 working days and were thankfully all low probability which has put my mind at ease so much.
Would you consider going for a harmony test ? I just felt that it was a long wait to the 20 week scan.
I found Mumsnet to be hugely reassuring on this topic as it would appear a lot of women our age have been through similar experiences and it's all been ok.
Wishing you all the best x

I had a 1:71 risk and I decided to go for an amniocentesis as it was less time to wait. There was no way I could have waited until the birth to find out. DS2 didn't have Down's and he's a strapping 7 year old now. Happy to answer any questions you have.

Hi folks. Apologies for the time taken to respond. I really appreciate your messages so thank you.

It's been hard waiting my next scan but I've had time to get used to it. I'm maybe hanging on to wee things but I think the fact my bloods were good for 39 years old and the height of the baby at the time of my scan was spot on for age, is making me feel better.

Today I am really feeling it as my tummy is a bit stingy and feels harder and a few very very light period like cramps (no blood) phoned midwife and she says its prob my uterus moving. Taking it easy today!

Hello. Just found this post. I went for a harmony test on Sunday 17th at ABC4D clinic In Scotland. It’s now 25th and spoke briefly to clinic who said the lab are processing results but can’t give days when results will be here. But probably before 29th.
I went for NHS dating scan on Thursday and when they heard I had harmony they basically said not to have NHS test.
How long did everyone’s tests take to come back.
Thank you, I’m anxious to get results xxx

@Nessie2021sorry for jumping on. Just seen your post. I went to ABC4D in glasgow for harmony. If the lab have the bloods they told me it normally takes them up to 5 days for results to be emailed through.
The harmony is definitely more accurate than the combined standard test so yes probably pointless in them doing it whrn waiting your harmony results. I went from 1/359 with nhs to 1/10,000 with harmony. So it was definitely worth that extra cash 🙈
Hope the wait isnt too much longer for you!
