Growth Scan 34 Weeks as fundal not tracking.

I went for my 34 week appointment today and fundal measured 31 cm (just).

My last measurement was at 28 weeks which measured 28 cm. I have had a normal first birth and their measurements matched week on week the whole way through and they were born right on the average weight.

  • it has been the same midwife who has measured me both times, I’ve now been booked in for a growth scan as she was ‘concerned’.

If any anyone has had this experience before can you let me know what happened, what your predicted & then final birth weight was?

All Google (I know, I know shouldn’t do it) throws up is IGUR, and that IGUR can be linked to chromosome issues, but also that people who looked small and were told their babies would be tiny went on to have whoppers...

I had a t21 pregnancy which I terminated between my first and this one - (which is why I am now I’m freaking out).

Any experiences I would really welcome to hear about.

Hi I haven’t been in your situation exactly but at my 31 week appointment (I was actually 31 weeks 2 days) my bump measurement was measuring 29. I had a growth scan booked in for 32 weeks (5 days later) anyway due to low pappa and my baby measured 33 and a half weeks. I really wouldn’t be too worried and see what the scan shows.

Try not to freak out! Fundal height measurements can be pretty inaccurate, and affected by baby’s position etc. wait for the scan, and go from there.
Re chromosomal issues - if there is a growth reduction (IUGR) by far the most likely cause is placental. That means a normal baby just not quite getting what he/she needs from the placenta, and sometimes requires earlier delivery - it doesn’t mean a chromosomal problem and the vast majority of these babies do fine. It will be ok!

Hi OP

Don't blame you for freaking out. I had the same, 2 tape measures in a row.

Growth scan was fine.

She was 8lb!

Ai ai ai, thanks all! That’s really helpful. I know this is slightly more (mentally!) complicated given my previous experience.

I’m waiting for my appointment time to be made now do will see what the scan throws up.

@Calphurnia love a concern then whopper story! I’m so glad for you 💐 hoping this will be the same, I certainly don’t feel small and the measurement is right under the bottom line, so will see.

I had this OP. I had a difficult pregnancy and at 31 weeks was measuring 24. Cue panic and immediate growth scan. They measured DS at a huge 5lb 6oz so then there was the opposite panic! DS was born the following week at 4lb 3oz, so none of it was accurate! My bump was diddy though, and because he was prem I never got the big bump experience. Hope it all goes smoothly for you.
