NIPT is it worth it?

Hi all

Been told that due to COVID-19 my health trust is not doing the combined test for Edwards, downs and Pataus at the dating scan and that I will go to my midwife but she will only be able to do the Quadruple which only covers downs and is less accurate.

In this case would the NIPT be something worth considering?

I would say yes if you have the opportunity to do it.

Hi @Luckyme30 - I’m in the Nov 2020 group with you.

We’ve opted for NIPT testing this time because I’m 40 but didn’t consider it with our other DCs, now 6 and 9.

Because of my age, we are at an increased risk and we have already decided that we would not continue with the pregnancy if the tests show DS or another chromosomal abnormality.

I guess you need to weigh up how much peace of mind it would give you against how much you can afford £400. We would have spent this having a few days away with the kids this Easter under different circumstances. I’m 10+1 today and we’re sending off the bloods on Tuesday. Good luck coming to a decision.

@Luckyme30 I wish I'd just opted for NIPT too. So much worry doing combined screening at the grand old age of 40!! Risk automatically higher (for a reason I guess). I didn't know about NIPT and wish I did before I opted for NHS screening as I'd have got it done early in pregnancy and saved myself unnecessary worry later on.
