CVS - scared

Just found out I'm 1:21 odds for Edwards and patau due to my age (42), my Papp-a was 0.12 and I had trisomy 13 with first baby.

I went for a private harmony scan and they found suspected heart/brain/kidney abnormalities, although they did also say 14 weeks gestation is really early to properly tell. They told me to book CVS or AMNIO and to not waste my money on private NIPT blood test so I need to ring the hospital in the morning.

I'm absolutely devastated. This is my third baby, my partners first and I can't believe I might be facing another trisomy. What bad luck :(

If it's not a trisomy I'm now worried about other defects due to today's potential findings.

Didn’t want to read & run. There is nothing any of us can say to make this less awful than it is. I am so very sorry for what you are going through.
I support many women in similar situations, so please feel free to contact me by PM if you want to ask anything or to talk privately
Sending love x

Oh heavens, you poor soul. You have all of my sympathies by the boatload. I had two consecutive trisomy pregnancies. Lightning struck twice for me and it was just awful luck and soul-destroying.

Hugs and strength to you. I so wish I could offer you more. It's just such a difficult place you're in and I am so very sorry for you.

NelliePig · 03/03/2020 21:44

I had a CVS at 13 weeks a few days before Christmas. We were at 1 in 30, but I'm 25 and this was due to a low Papp a reading. My 12 week scan was fine though and they weren't any suspected issues elsewhere so cant comment on that.

Have you had the procedure previously? If so you know that itself isnt anything to worry about. Just feels like period cramps when they are taking the samples, but your numb and dont feel the needle. I didn't have any bleeding or cramping after either.

It's the waiting that's the horrible bit in my opinion and the not knowing, it's not nice and I cant offer any advice about a bad result, but I hope everything goes well for you this time and you can then relax and enjoy your pregnancy.
Xxx

Hope all goes well today xx

Thanks. The prognosis is bleak following cvs and scan. There's a fluid cyst on the babies brain and a heart defect although it's not clear yet. It's most likely T18.

It's my second trisomy in 4 pregnancies if confirmed. Feeling very unlucky.

I know you feel unlucky OP but (and please don't think I'm setting out be unkind) it is better to know than not. At least you have some choices. I have friends with a severely disabled child and their life has been turned upside down and to be honest... has few positives (their words). Sometimes life only throws curved balls and not nice ones at that. Good luck to you whatever happens or whatever you decide.

Kangaroo77 · 04/03/2020 18:27

@msmith501 No you're absolutely right. I feel rubbish but I'm also conscious that it's better to know now. I'm sorry to hear about your friends ☹️. I'm having a pitiful moment but life goes on. Xxx. Thanks

It's such an enormous sadness and disappointment.
I hope you're plugged into the ARC forum. It's a real lifeline, OP.

I'm sorry it didnt go as you hoped, but hopefully they will get the results back nice and quick for you and certainty will hopefully bring some clarity for you. xx
