Harmony NIPT at 17 weeks

Hello,

I had my Harmony test done January 6th (15weeks) after screened high risk on my 12week ultrasound and blood. after two follow up calls and two weeks, the nurse just called to say there was not enough blood and I have to go in again to redraw blood. I will have to confirm tomorrow if it’s was the volume of blood or did she mean low fetal DNA. She only said the lab said there’s not enough blood. :(

I’ll be 17 weeks tomorrow and all the websites have said it’s best to do the NiPT between 10-14 weeks. Will I have passed the prime timing of taking the test? I’m so worried now because if for any reason it comes back as positive, does this mean I’ll miss my time for further testing like amniocentesis which I really don’t want to go through.

It’s been so stressful waiting for the two weeks already. Has anyone had NIPT at 17 weeks?

Thanks!

Exact same thing happened to me a fee weeks ago and I had the NIPT at 16 and a bit weeks (am now 25 weeks.) Would have still have been offered the amnio etc afterwards if results were high at this stage. Luckily all came back low risk. It was such a worrying time especially having to wait so long and do it twice so I understand all the worry. You haven’t passed the ‘prime’ time, it’s more accurate at this stage anyway as there is more fetal dna in the blood. Good luck x

Thank you @Amanduh!

Went in this morning and they said they ran out of Harmony test. There was pretty much air shooting out of my ear! They told me to go to another office and of course I said I can’t do that since I have work and etc. The other office is at least 30 minutes away. They said I can come back in 6 days when they get the kits or go to the other office tomorrow. I had to put my foot down and said it was really not acceptable considering this is not just a regular blood check up. I’ve been in stress the past two weeks to learn of a blood redraw and then need to wait for another week? Can’t believe they really said that. But anyway, I asked politely for the requisition and went directly to the blood lab instead.

At the end of the day my husband said , we got it done. Horray. Another round of worrying. Although the ob said he’s not worried, who wouldn’t right?

Thank you again for letting me know of your experience!!

Einhad a NIPT at 12 weeks and they got enough fatal dna, I don’t think that decreases with gestation.

I found out my son had a genetic abnormality when I was 35 weeks pg with his sister. I was offered a amino for her then ( I declined as it seemed easier to wait for her to born and just get her bloods done.

So I don’t think it’s too late for either. I hope you get clear results

Hello, I had my nipt test at 17 weeks. They didn't mention anything about it being the wrong time to do it.
They weren't able to get the measurements needed at my 12 week scan, so had a quad test and now nipt last thursday.
Waiting for the results is awful and my thoughts are with you x

LillyLeaf · 21/01/2020 18:58

I have to redo my NIPT bloods as there wasn't enough fetal DNA in my bloods. I went private at 11+1wks, they want me to wait 4 weeks from the first bloods to allow enough DNA in my blood. I've had 2 MCs so I was gutted I have to wait again. I'll be 16 weeks by the time I get the results (that's if it works this time). I haven't had my NHS screening results yet so I'm incredibly nervous waiting for them too.

My genetics counselor actually called the lab for me to ask why there’s a redraw and similarly they said there wasn’t enough fetal DNA. It needs to be more than 4%. Hopefully it works this time as I’m now 17 weeks but I’m worried now as there technically should be enough DNA. The counselor said there isn’t really a reason and ask we can do is hope this round will work.

Good luck ladies !! Keep us posted.

Hi @tedster1022 how did you get on? I’ve had to do the test 3 times now and waiting for results x

tedster1022 · 31/10/2020 04:07

@Twinsat42 my test was negative on the second try. I agree with a lot of other posters, probably I’d skip the tests if I’m lucky to be pregnant again. Our baby girl was born June 17! :)

Is your daughter ok? Did she have any issues in the end. Congratulations hope you’re enjoying xxx

tedster1022 · 01/11/2020 03:59

@Twinsat42 not a problem. ;) she’s doing great. Four months now. But I ended up with quite a difficult post partum period. So far though she’s good and healthy. So glad. :)

Good luck to you !!
