NIPT tomorrow - nervous

I will be 10+3 tomorrow and I am booked in for my NIPT.

I am so nervous about the scan (though I've had one at 5+4 and 7+2) so feeling quietly confident, however I feel like the wait for the results is going to drive me crazy. How do you stay sane while waiting?

I've been told it will be 7-10 working days so realistically could be another 2 weeks before I get the results back.

Has anyone had one recently and had results back quicker? I'm having it with Ultrasound Direct.

I had a NIPT but through the NHS due to high risk of Downs Syndrome. I had the test on a Wednesday and the results come back 13 days later (9 working days).

Thanks @Bluebell9, hope your results were okay. It's such a long time to wait, I don't know how I will stop myself getting stressed out.

My results came back as less than 1 in 50,000 thanks.

I'd try not to think about it. I know its easier said than done but there is no point stressing yourself unnecessarily.

Are you having the test for a reason? ie are you high risk?

tisonlymeagain · 12/07/2019 12:35

Ah that's good @Bluebell9

I'm having it because I am 40 next week so I suspect the NHS tests will come back high risk because of my age. If something IS wrong then I'd rather know sooner than later. My NHS scan isn't until I am 13 weeks.

@tisonlymeagain I had Harmony privately at an NHS hospital (same reason as you!) And got the results back in 7 days (not 7 working days). Good luck.

Mine took the full 2 weeks. My baby had Downs and organ abnormalities so I had a tfmr after CVS.

I think they will be able to look for soft markers too - they could see a lot of fluid on my baby when scanning before taking the bloods.

Hope all goes smoothly, and you get a good result quickly.

tisonlymeagain · 12/07/2019 17:13

Thanks @SylvanianFrenemies and I'm really sorry to hear about your experience.

It is one of the reasons I have decided to go for the NIPT so that I can progress quicker with CVS and if necessary the TFMR earlier than if I had to wait for NHS testing, as I imagine if my NHS came back high risk, I'd opt for the NIPT before CVS anyhow, so I could be 17/18 weeks before I'd have the diagnosis.

Thanks OP.

I think that's sensible. I didn't have my tfmr til 18 weeks due to a timeline of 12 week scan, Harmony Test, CVS and flu. Were I to have another pregnancy (may not as we have 2 living DCs and I'm nearly 42) I would have NIPT early.

I'm sure it will all be theoretical for you, the odds are in your favour, but I know it must be nervewracking anyway.

Bluebell9 · 15/07/2019 09:38

Fingers crossed for your results @tisonlymeagain.

tisonlymeagain · 15/07/2019 09:57

Thanks @Bluebell9 going to feel like a long wait. Scan was great, baby was wriggling all over the place, so active and measuring another 3 days ahead from my last scan.

They've said 7-10 working days so I'm figuring there's no point stressing this week about them arriving.

Apparently they come back via email unless there's a problem and then they phone you.

I'm just being impatient now as I really want to share my news with my kids etc but waiting for these results.

How are you getting on @tisonlymeagain?

tisonlymeagain · 22/07/2019 10:42

Still waiting @Bluebell9 😬 thanks for asking. I was okay last week as didn't really expect results back but fingers crossed they should come this week. Lab will have received bloods on Tuesday last week so I'm hopeful that by Friday I'll have them.

Results came back! Haven't opened the report yet as I said I would do that with DP (it should show the sex!) but from the snippet I can see it says results are within the normal range. Will update more when I see DP later! (The wait is killing me...)

I'm glad the results came back so quickly for you. Fingers crossed all is ok.

Finally opened them, less than 1:10000 for all three trisomies and it's a boy ShockGrin
