High abdominal circumference on growth scan

I will be 36 weeks tomorrow and had a midwife appointment today, she took my bump measurements and said that baby hadn't grown that much so sent me for a growth scan.
Turns out her measurements were really off and baby has either had a big growth spurt or the previous measurements were that accurate either.
Now they are concerned that the abdominal circumference is above the 95th percentile so I've got to go back for a glucose test.
Has anyone else had experience with this measurement being high? Now worried this is going to be a huge baby. First was 7lb 5

Hi,
I had this with my second baby - at 36 weeks they said he was just within the realms of ok in terms of abdominal circumference. He was a big baby - 10lb at 42 weeks - but it did make me cross that they made me so worried when it was still in the normal zone. He was born vaginally and no stitches or tears if that makes you feel better (but plenty of epidural!). I did also go on to have Gestational Diabetes with my third child.

Hi @Purple09876 I know this thread is a few weeks old but I was wondering how you got on? Presuming baby is probably here by now!

I had a 28 week scan yesterday (not linked to any growth concerns) and baby had AC of over 95th centile. Other measurements small/average so overall estimated weight wasn’t huge.

Sonographer and obstetrician seemed unconcerned about the AC but I am wondering if I should have been offered a GTT and why I haven’t since many women with this result seem to. I called my midwife about it this morning and am waiting to hear back from her.

What were your test results and was it a big baby?

@AdmiralButterfly were you given a GTT in your second pregnancy after the large AC measurement? Or just in your third as a result of a big baby in your second?

Hi @MajorFaffington, yes baby is here now! Turned out I did have gestational diabetes ( although it wasn't confirmed till I was nearly 38 weeks as the glucose test made me sick so I had to test my blood sugars after meals for a few days). Just controlled it through diet and was booked in to be induced on my due date . Baby born naturally the day before due date and was fairly big at 8lb 6. She's chunky but wouldn't say her tummy is overly big.
It does seem strange that they test some people but not others. Have they said you'll have any more scans now?

Congratulations!

I have another scan booked for 36 weeks anyway, because of my thyroid issues. Nobody seemed concerned about the measurement or checking up on it at all!

My midwife got back to me and said that it was probably because because baby was on the 95th centile, not above it, that there wasn’t any concern and that I would only usually be referred for GTT if above 95th centile or if there was glucose found in my urine.

I am sure that my dates are wrong and I am actually only 27 weeks rather than 28, which would mean that baby is above, rather than on, 95th centile. I explained this to the midwife and she is going to discuss with the diabetes midwife and get back to me. Hoping they will agree I can have the test but can imagine it making me sick too!

My first was also 7lbs 5 so I am preparing myself for a much bigger one, GD or not!!

Thank you
Maybe they will just test you anyway then or get you in for a growth scan in a couple of weeks.
I think my dd must of been just above the 95tg percentile. But with you being borderline you'd think they might want to keep an eye on that changing
