20 week scan anomalies

Hello,

This is my first post so sorry if I write something wrong!

We recently went for our 20 week scan with our first baby. As you can imagine we have been so excited throughout, but on going, the midwife told us she couldn’t see everything she needed to check our baby’s heart, so we had another appointment re-booked for three weeks later. We have now had this second appointment and they have said they believe our baby’s heart has not developed as it should. That it appears to have two ventricles but only one outlet, and from this have referred us to have a scan at GOSH. We’re hoping to get that early this week.

I was just wondering if anyone else has had this outcome from their scans and what it actually means. We’re currently thinking the worst :( until we can find out more, so just seeking any information if anyone has any to give!

Not the same experience but we had an anomaly picked up at my 20 week scan. Different anomaly but emotionally probably fairly similar. Hope you are able to get your scan soon.

We have now had our scan and the outcome was not as scary as we thought.

Although they have found a hole in our babies heart that should not be there, they have said it's a fairly low risk operation after the baby is born. 🤞🏼

We now have the decision to make as to whether or not to get the amniocentesis test to check there isn't anything else wrong, as with a heart condition, there is an increased risk that isn't covered with the screening.

That's good news. We were offered amniocentesis test too although we declined it. Ds had a blood test when he was born which tested for the same things that amniocentesis does and it came back clear. He also had an Mri scan of his brain which showed more abnormalities. He is now a very happy 6 year old who has spent more time in hospital than the average adult and also has some learning difficulties but is doing very well and recently learnt to write his name.
