Low Papp-A

Hi,

I had my long awaited dating scan today. Screening came back as low risk (1:3998 for downs and 1:20,000 for the others).

My HCG was 0.5755 MoM. Papp A 0.4079.

They then said Papp A under 0.41 would need monitoring later on as could indicate growth problems. They didn't seem too concerned so I wasn't initially....but as the day as gone on I now feel so worried about what this means. Has anyone else been told this? Or been through it...what were your experiences and what have you been told? They didn't expand any further and I can't get hold of my midwife.

Thank you in advance.

Someone mentioned it on the pregnancy board in passing (I think on the thread 40+ pregnancy). Basically it just means you get extra scans later in pregnancy to make sure baby is growing at the right rate (more chances to see baby! Awesome!).

A friend of mine had intra-uterine growth restriction in her pregnancy, which I think is the same or similar - NB this does not happen in all cases of low Papp-A and you are borderline! Don't panic! She had her baby by caesarean at 34 weeks because she'd stopped growing, but her little girl is now 3 and absolutely normal - she reached normal size within the first year. The scans are an opportunity to make sure your baby comes out healthy rather than anything to worry about too much xx

Hi - I have this too. I'm currently 21 weeks.
Mine is much lower than yours - 0.2 I think. I was put on baby aspirin after the 12 week scan and need to have growth scans and blood pressure checks from 28 weeks.
I had 0.4 MOM Papp A with my DD2 and wasn't monitored at all - my hospital only define low as under 0.3.
DD2 was born at 41 weeks weighing 9lbs
Try not to worry too much - as TinyTerror said - it's a marker that CAN mean growth problems but doesn't definitely - and they'll just keep a really close eye on you
